110 in Hawaii: shipping?

If one were to buy this and ship it to the mainland, would it need to go through customs/EPA/DOT?

good question. in theory not but there may be an agriculture inspection. seller claims it has been "brought up to emission and vehicle standards and registered and licensed" so I guess he should be able to provide a paper trail on that before you plunk down your hard earned cash. mind you any time something lands on US soil from over the ocean it is possible for customs to grab it. for that matter, they can come to your house and grab it. have you looked into shipping from HI?

IMO you are probably better off going with a UK or ROW 83-85 that has been converted to 300tdi.

May I be the first to suggest moving to the islands.

Paid 7,000 to ship a car from NJ to LA then to HI ( the only enclosed part of the trip was on the main land.

Also I know someone who bought a car in HI, and brought it into the main land with NO QUESTIONS ASKED as it beared the HI License plate, once home he re-registered it. ( not sure if the plate has to stay on the vehicle - like California - , but you can always talk the owner into letting the Tag stay and then ship the tag back or maybe obtain a HI plate in your name before shipping )

I paid $3500 last summer to ship my D90 from Georgia to Hawaii, enclosed carrier the entire way. Shipping rates might have gone up, but I doubt it will be much higher than $4000.

Greg you won't have to go through customs so that is a non-issue.

Hawaii is like California as far as the tag staying with the vehicle and not the owner.

Thanks, with the economy at the moment i am going to need it, especially as I have 3 more refurbished 110 CSW's in the pipe line, 1 x 200tdi, and 2 x 300tdi.

And we are currently rebuilding 2 x galvanised chassis 110 300tdi vehicles.
