Well.....that didn't last long

After running great all week.....went to the store this am....and BOOM! The 2.5na came apart. Not sure what blew up, but it blew the glow plugs on 2 and 3 right out of the block and then seized up.Thank god I have 3 more sitting here, but might entertain the 200 tdi option......just maybe.
Either way Margret will be sitting till spring I'm afraid.

Crazy. Might as well use the other NA up.

Meant to tell you while we were on the phone, but I'd bet the head gasket blew and coolant doesn't compress which is what blew the glows out of the head. Bet you will find one or more badly bent rods.

Thanks guys. Which ever way I go it will be spring before I have the time to invest in another swap. My next project was going to be getting the doors all sorted and replaced. Guess that just moved to the top of the list.
Dave, send me info. I have one that is good to go, and already been check by a machine shop.

I will be taking it apart to see if I can find out what happened and will post what I find.

Damn Rick, that sucks!

It's a sad state when your 2.5 NA has gone through more engines than your P38's...knock on wood of course. Meanwhile, Emma just soldiers along I hope?

It will be interesting to see if Newman's have to drive a 2.5 NA stubbornness weakens in time with the unreliability that is inherent with high mileage 2.5 NA engines... can picture Rick reading this post chanting the Churchill "we'll NEVER surrender" quote!

Thinking that's a done deal based on the call we had yesterday. Rumor is it is going to be sitting in the back of my ftwofiddy when I pick it up. He's finally succumbed to all of our beating him up every chance we get.

If anyone has one- Rick is ISO a 1.4 tcase. I'm thinking his heavy ass rig will be a bit much to be ideal for a 1.2. But then again he's used to Fred Flintstone levels of power

Who isn't!
I suppose now Mr Newman will hunt down every available 200 this side of the Mississippi and squirrel them in the barn for the next twenty years.

At that point we'll have to convince him to go for the TDV6 swap

At least it went locally, not 1000 miles from home. Still, it sucks having to pull another engine but it could have been a V8 in the P38. Missed you at Conclave, dude!

One of the reasons I was working on the 2.5 NA transformation to a TDI project was so Newman could have TDI power with technically still having a 2.5 NA block and crank under his hood.
