Trailer Project

This is the start of my trailer project. I picked up a m416 trailer that I felt was in pretty good shape. The plan is to do the following:

Media blast
Put spare tire mount under tub using Toyota spare tire mount and lift mechanisim
Paint frame black
Paint exterior of tub red to match truck
Paint top of fenders black
Put roll-on bedliner in interior of bed and on inside of fenders
Change front part of wiring harness to allow for either 7-pin or 4-flat

So far I have most of the accessories taken off and the tub unbolted. The next step is to get the tub off and fabricate a bracket for the spare tire mount. Then hopefully next week go to the blast shop.

You are pretty much describing mine ( except for the color )

I did Spray On bedliner, rockNroll hitch, extended tongue and I am putting Rover Wheels via Adapters..

Gustavio,
Very nice.. Truck too!!

How is your bedliner holding up? I am getting a little worried while noticing how much flex there is in the bottom of the tub.

Craig,

Thanks, that D90 lives in Colorado now , his owner is Chris ( Birdman ).

I did something else to my floor. I poxyed the floor , then placed marine plywood on top and then Sprayed it. after the spray dried, I used Windshield Urethane and sealed the edge of the wood with the walls of the tub.
I can jump up and down on that floor and no flex ( also I did it for water proofing in case of river crossing with the trailer behind )

Here is the finished product.
For the spare tire mount I used a mount from a Toyota pickup and used unversial bump stops from Napa to brace the tire against the bottom of the frame when it raises.

For Paint I used Eastwoods Extreme Chasis Black and Primer on the frame and Fenders. For the Body I used PPG paint color matched to the D. For the tub I used a product called EZ Liner that I also purchased from the paint dealer.

I was going to paint the wheels a silver alloy color to match the D's wheels but with the trailer already matching the truck I only wanted to be Gay and not Super Faboulous, so I went with the Black look on the Wheels. Plus my wife thought it was bad enough to paint the trailer to match.

My thoughts so far are that if I was doing it again I would probably buy a new axle with matching hubs to avoid the spare tire hassle. The only reason I went this route is because the PO gave me an extra set of wheels and the tires are pretty new.

For the bedliner, that was a complete mess to paint on and I am not convinced of the reliability. Next time I would probably pay to have Line-x or Rhinoliner installed.

I'm not sure I'd like the look of steelies painted silver, but getting some adapters and running alloys would be pretty sweet. Whatever you do, don't put a roof top tent on it if you are worried about being considered gay!

Thanks guys! I use it for landscaping projects around the house and to haul my stuff to the hunting spot. So far I have hauled 5 trailer loads of landscaping bark in the trailer and an Elk.

My wife actually suggested a roof top tent but I sleep on the ground like a man.
