Steering pump?

The last several days my power steering has started feeling.... stiff.
It almost feels stiff at different points during a turn; and it doesn't want to self-straighten after making a turn.

Does that make sense?

I would first look at the rest of the steering system. Jack up the front axle and see if it steers easily with the engine off or not. If it is still stiff, then it is not the power steering at fault.

Can be lots of things, but steering shaft u-joints are common.

You know what, now that you say that.....I remember thinking when I was swapping the motors that the steering shaft looked crappy where that rubber dough-nut thing is...

Jacked up the front end last night.
With both tires off the ground, it has a *notchy* feel as you turn the wheels.
It's got to be the u-joints binding up...

update:

Replaced the steering shaft this evening.
Old u-joints were BAD!
Really bad.
The joint closest to the steering column was extremely stiff in both directions and the one near the steering box was stiff in one direction...

New shaft is in and steering is smooth like butter and easy.

Good call, Red90.
