Soft Top Door Reduex Electric Boogaloo

My soft top doors are in excellent shape, zero rust, no dings nor scratches. I toyed with the idea of getting modern rollup doors, but I didn't want to cough up the cash to do so when mine are in such great shape. Anyhoo, I choose to dress mine up a bit.

Window Felt - I installed the Garrison Outfitter window felt kit. What a difference! No more rattle and they slide with ease. The rivets that came with the kit failed...basically, the shaft broke before drawing the rivet tight. I spend more time drilling out the loose rivets than installing the felt. I ditched the rivets, tapped the holes and used stainless steel screws. They will be easier to service in the future if needed.

Upper/Lower Door Seals - I used Series door seals in between the upper and lower doors. I cut to length, stamped the holes and cut the draining slots. I used Silicon grease on the door cappings and the bottom of the top tops to eliminate the chance to paint lifting if I ever remove the door tops. My doors have a great seal all the way around. No gaps, no leaks.

Sound deadening- I installed Dynamat Extreme on the interior of the door skins. What a difference! The doors are solid now and I notice less noise while driving.

Door Hinges - I bought an updated door hinge kit from R and C 4X4 for $116 shipped to my door. The kit includes four front door hinges and SS hardware. I chose not to trim the cappings, but to mill clearance in the two upper hinges for the cappings. Next I get them painted.

Door Cards - mine have a few cracks around the screw holes. I plan to repair using fiberglass.

Pictures to come.

What do all y'all think about leaving the hinges unpainted? I believe they are zinc coated.

They just catch attention. Hinges are an odd thing to draw attention to, so I'd say just paint them body color.

Question Door hinge painting

What have y'all paid to have your front door hinges painted? I was just quoted $150 for 4 hinges...seems high to me.

For that kind of money you could buy a decent paint gun and spray them yourself.

I believe this was a "this job is too small I don't want the job" quote.

Can you get a can of touch up paint from the dealer and spray them yourself? I don't know if it is still available.

I can get them powder coated black for free. I think I'll go that route.

I repaired all the mounting holes with several layers of fiberglass and also epoxied nylon spacers to fill the gap between the cards and the door frame. Dynamat was also applied to the inside of the door cards.

Why did you put dynamat on the plastic door cards? It's not really going to net you anything other than adding weight... You could smush dynaliner between the door and the card and that might help though.
