Rear storage box build

I got tired of listening to the Hardigg box bounce around every time I go over a bump so I decided to finally build a rear drawer. The storage drawer is 24"x 33" on sliders that will handle 350 lbs fully extended ( picked up the sliders at a local cabinet supply place). The rear compartment will hold the 8" sub woofer and the side compartment that will be accessible by a flush mount lockable access door in the lid is meant for a short rifle or shotgun. Initially I am building the drawer out of wood but if it doesn't hold up I will pull it out and replace it with one fabricated out of steel. More pictures coming as the project progresses

Very similar to what I have in mind. Front compartment for forward facing 6x9 speakers, a storage section accessible from above for recovery gear and a rear most section for the camping stove and associated gear.
Wood will be strong enough.
Subscribed.

I am going to drop an 1/8" steel plate in the bottom of the drawer to add some additional strength. I plan to load the shit out of this thing

Looks fantastic!

Out of curiosity - not that it matters, but any specific reason why the top platform is not level with the wheel wells?

the top on there now it just temporary. When I get the access door for the rifle storage compartment I am going to cut the lid so it goes all the way across the tops of the wheel wells so when I lay my rubber sheet on it will be like a solid bed. Also, I wanted to make the top as tall as I could to get as much depth as possible in the drawer. In the picture the box is not jammed all the way in, when in properly the top will lay right on the top of the wheel wells

In the truck and full of crap! Not very good light for the pictures. Hunting down a flush mount handle/latch/lock for the drawer and trying to decide what I want to do for the rifle storage section trap door. I'll most likely need to have a custom sized one made from some boat cabinet place. It needs to be around 6"x34", flush mount and lockable. Open to suggestions for any trick little ideas anyone may have. As I said before when the permanent top goes on it will span all the way over the wheel wells and be covered with diamond plate pattern rubber mat and tie down latches. Now I can use both of my Hardigg cases on the roof rack
