quarter panel repair feedback

I have a simple idea I would like to get feedback on. The quarter panels on my ROW 110 needs some attention. I thought maybe an aluminum patch panel might look alright.

Putting some silicone in between the two pieces would help minimize dirt from accumulating. Pop rivets to hold it on.

Well...it looks like it would cover up the problem partially but it certainly isn't a fix.

Have you considered actually cutting out the rot and having a replacement patch welded in place? Or if you cannot weld the aluminum, rivet a supporting panel behind the quarter - not in front of it.

Hi Fred,
I have the same problem. I posted a short film a view weeks back that i found on you tube. It is not that difficult to replace it with a replacement panel. And they are cheap to.
I would not do a patch job it just will corrode more and eat away you defender. Just replace it. You got a nice project going do it right!
just my 2 cents.

Jeroen, I took your advice and purchased a set from the same place you did. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Make sure the thick aluminium support behind it is in good shape. If not, weld in a patch there. I had to do that on my series.

I had to replace rear quarter on 90 and instead of pop riviting a new one on I epoxied like the newer cars. Came out good and easy enough to do in garage. Make sure it's straight however or you'll get to do it again with another panel. Just a thought and another option.

Landan, that looks good. You only get one shot with adhesive.
