New Speaker Wires?

Has anyone tried to replace the original speaker wires in their D90's, especially the rear speakers?

The speaker wires in my 97 NAS 90 is just horrible and I was wondering how much of a pain in the arse it would be to replace the factory speaker wires (using the original wire routing) with new 14 gauge shielded wires.

Thoughts anyone? I guess the lazy way would be to route the wires within the cabin, but I'd like to do it to replace the old wires if it's not going to take me a whole day...

If it is like the 94/95 and NAS 110, they are in the loom that runs through the chassis so very difficult to take that out, replace the wires, and put it back.

You could probably fairly easily run a new set of wires (maybe in a convoluted tube) wire tied along the frame.

Speaker wire replacement

Just finished replacing stereo system. I was tempted to run wire the same route as factory run for the front door speakers but instead just fished wire thru doors down an opening on frame then back along the factory wires. Very easy. Fished wires for rear thru hole in center, then along the factory loom to either side. Again, very easy. I used probably better wire, 14 ga GXL, and better terminals, heat shrink perm-sealed connects. Zip-stripped everything in place, covered em with auto flex-conduit.

I've had success running speaker wires under the truck using TechFlex loom with a heavy duty twisted speaker wire (meaning the wires are twisted inside another jacket giving it even more protection).

Here are some links.

Been a year+ and no issues - just wire tie along the frame for the rears.

Hey TB, you know what's funny, you spotted my D90 in Manhattan a year ago (well it was Ronnie's then).

Thanks again guys for all your help. I'm almost there, I've fished all the wires, now the amp and final wires go in next time. Here's a pic of the alpine tweeter I installed in the doors... Click image for larger version
