Mud Center Console & Audio Install Question:

Hi guys!

Quick question: I brought my Defender 90 to an Audio Installer in NJ to have the following work done:

1) Install Mud Console Dash, with Pioneer Double Din Radio

2) 2 Front Speakers (new holes need to be made in new door panel/molding, tweeters mounted on dash

3) 2 speakers rear. Two holes needed to be cut into black Diamond plating

4) Amps and enclosed sub (sub complete from factory, so no need to build box/enclosure)

Here's my question. How long should this take? Initially they quoted 6-7 hours. It's been there for 7 Days...and they say they need another 2-3 days because its a complicated install because of modifications.

I would imagine the Mud Console was the most time intensive...how long did it take for the guys that have the same/similar console? I'd like to be able to show the shop this post just in case, hoping not to get overcharged.

Thanks! Brian

7 days and and additional 2-3 to finish? That's just outrageous. Just take a look at the Mud Console installation instructions, and you'll find that it is meant as a DIY install. Believe it or not, that's the easiest job compared to the rest of the work you are having done!

The most time consuming part of this job is to run the wiring properly because a Defender doesn't have any sills or substantial carpeting per se, to conceal the wires. A proper install would mean having to run the wiring on the outside along the chassis, but even that should not require 7-10 days.

In my opinion something is not quite right there. If I were in your shoes, I would demand to know why it's taking so long. I just hope they didn't mess anything up for you.

Mud console took me 4 hours to fit including moving my radio into it.
Perhaps they are doing an hour a day.

I would say 4 to 6 hours for a competent and experienced installer for everything listed.

Hopefully they haven't cut your dash all apart in the process...

Do you mean more that needed? Installing a Mud Console requires cutting of the dash.
