Modified M101CDN with drop gate and hard top

Between work and the crappy weather the M101 is coming along slowly. It has been disassembled and sandblasted. I cut out the back to create a drop gate. The sides were shored up using 5/8 bar stock. Two additional cross braces were welded in. A lip was created to accept stock LR rear door seals. Hinges and antiluce were ordered from the UK. The original A-frame was replaced with 2"x3" 14 gauge rect tubing and extended another 13" for better towing characteristics. Another 2"x2" 11 gauge tube with class III receiver runs from the A-frame to the rear of the bed to support a bike carrier, basket, winch, etc. All of that bolts in for future alterations. The drop leg will be replaced with a top-swing jack allowing it to be swung up when not is use. Two stabilizers mount in the back. A hard top is being created using a variety of parts including some ARE lift doors, LR lift gate, modified LR 88" roof panel and custom frame. The roof top is being cut down. Pics show the new frame separated from the aluminum skin. It has been shortened 6" and narrowed 9.5". Rear door width remains stock. The roof panel will get reworked over the next week or two.

Looking good, and looking forward to seeing how you do the roof mods.

Neat idea. How tall will it be ? Will you be making it so that your rtt will live on top ?

Looks nice, Mark.
I can't imagine a trailer without a tailgate---so inconconvenient!

It should come in around 6'6" or equivalent to a late series/110. RTT will go on top using something like Thule rails. I've already decided I need to add back 1.25" to that roof frame. That will get done this afternoon. I'm heading to Ashland probably Wednesday to drop everything off at Commonwealth Galvanizing. All of the trailer parts, inner defender wheelwells and bulkhead will get the treatment.

Wait you are working on the Nigerian Princess ? What engine will she get ? Tell the dude @ Commonwealth I sent you. I'm going to be taking him some chassis and bulkheads in the next couple of weeks and so is Drew.

No Princess yet. I'm going to focus on the '90 RRC for Taylor after this trailer is complete. All parts went to Steve at Commonwealth yesterday. For those looking for galvanizing this is located just off 95 in Atlee. It's about 2 miles from Green Top Sporting Goods too. I started cutting down those filthy white side doors yesterday. They'll be 20 5/8" tall to match the height of a series side panel and work with a stock LR lift gate. As for the Princess, I haven't decided on the powertrain. It was going to be the 300TDi but I'm going to sell that on ebay since no one here seems interested. It will come down to a OM617 or the LT1 V8 sitting on a stand here. Hell, I could put that 300TDi in with a rebuilt R380 to make in more marketable. I may have to sell it to help pay off Taylor's school loan.
