Engine uncertainties

I'm still in a full restoration since summer, my first land rover so give a teen some time to learn. Only have time to work on the car as I fly back home every few weeks from college.

Quick questions:

Do I need an alternator upgrade from the standard 65amp (200tdi engine)? Not running any particular special music system while he car is off and whole driving lights don't dim. What are the advantages. Still unclear about that.

Also if the alternator is faulty that means the voltage being read either fluctuates or simply doesn't read right?

The turbo turbines when spun don't seem to spin freely, barely half a round when nudged with my finger. It needs cleaning but is that really a must? Can I keep it the way it is and come back to it later after a few drives.

You don't need a larger alternator unless you are adding a lot more load that is always on.

The alternator should charge to around 14 volts when the battery is charged. Off and charged the battery reads around 12.5 volts.

Turbo sounds okay by your description. It is more about how much play there is in the shaft and if you produce boost or not.

Since you are over landing, I think a larger (higher amperage) alternator is a good idea, in addition to a larger (or second) battery. This will allow you to run lights, charge electronics, etc if needed with the vehicle off
