Cleaning a dirty headliner?

So how have you guys ruined your headliners? So power washing is out. Carpet cleaner is out. But in all seriousness what are some suggestions before I have at it!

I would not touch it, until you replace it that is....the glue wont appreciate it and the card board backing wont do well either. Assuming it's 28 years old.
