Back on the road

I finally got the 110 head gasket job finished yesterday, and shes back out pissing people off in Orange county, Va.
The real only major set back was when a bolt twisted off in the head, and waiting for a new head gasket, thank you RDS! I played with the injector timing, and it seems that the truck has more "power", for the lack of a better word, and alot less smoke. No more oil in the anti freeze.
I am going to take the rack off for some mods, and attempt to buff out the paint and get a good coat of wax on.
Looking fwd to happy hour next week!

Good news!

Rick:
Very good news...
Remember that when the accelerator petal is mashed all the way down, that's it... pressing harder won't help.

Once drove a N/A diesel from VA to Atlanta and back and kept pressing harder.
Guess it was a subconscious thing that more foot pressure = more speed, how wrong I was.

Spent the next 4 months seeing a podiatrist for plantar fasciitis in the right foot!!!

Drive safe.

Yup....she only does 58 down hill....but I love driving that truck! I would like to thank you and other board members for answering my questions. I just wanted to do it right the first time out....not do it over because of some stupid crap.

Well...so much for that!

The 110 was running well.....too well. I pulled it into the the shop to tidy up a few interior and wiring issues. Got the front floor all sealed and bolted in. Repaired some dash electric stuff. Reattached the fuse box, and installed cover. Figured out the brake/tail light problem. Good afternoon in the shop. So...I figured I would stop by the watering hole for a cold one....and thats when it happened. She over heated...badly. Returned to the house, and being a bit hotter than the truck, let her sit over night. Next am...did the basic checks and she started right up. Pulled her into the shop, let it idle for a bit, and she over heated again.
Well...as close as I can figure...when doing the electric, pulling jumper wires around...in and out of the engine bay I broke the radiator cap. When I first replaced it, I was unable to find a "flat" cap, and used one with the plastic release lever. The lever got snagged on something and broke in the open position, hence fluid loss...hence over heating.
I now have the oil back in the coolant issue I had before. A new HG is enroute. If it leaks again I will be looking into other power options as either the head or the block have issues.
I did get the new Exmoor seats and my sliders yesterday. And my newly rebuilt alternator is ready to go...at 65 amps.

That's way more than your fair share of problems.

stupid stuff

Well....the head is cracked. I should have another head Sunday, and will drop it off to be checked out Monday am. The poor truck looks like it ran over a IED. Hood is off, motor torn down, rear doors hanging open, rear seats gone.
I figured since its broke, I would fit the new Exmoor seats, a cubbie, the sliders, and some other goodies. I got the rack cut and want to get the tent mounted and give her a good shake down cruise (considering all goes well in the motor compartment) with in the next couple of weeks. If all goes to plan, she will be doing the Wilds trip in June.
I really couldn't belive how much better it sounded inside after getting the floors all sorted. I have to get this thing done and hardned for the VOT...and its commong faster than I think!

I guess what ever vehicle I am taking to VOT, it will be trailered. Be sides my co pilot, the women folk are going too. This should make an intresting trip. Have Cosmo send you up with some of the "golden brew" from OBC. That will get us thru just about anything.

The new head got a clean bill of health from the machine shop. I have to pick up some hardware and she should be back on the road....again Thursday. Keeping my fingers crossed.

All is good. Started at 0830, and with some input from Mr Davis, the road test at 1400. Now mind you this was including a couple of runs for hardware (I caught this from hanging out with Bill A.), and a lunch break. So far it is running well and I have done 3 flushes on the cooling system with almost no oil last time.
Thanks for all that gave support and info.
Max says thanks for getting his truck back on the road. I still can't figure out where or when I lost it to him.....

It was a very busy day. New fan clutch installed, flushed the cooling system 3x times, installed tstat and filled with coolant...dogged her for an hour and a half daring her to over heat. Never happened!
Rack is modded, painted and installed. Same with the cubbie. Will get the tent and can holders in the am. Leaving for the Wilds on Thursday am. Life is good....so far.
