Bumping this for future readers - I ordered this on amazon and it worked great using the two ROW stock holes:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just needed a couple of nuts/bolts/washers to mount it to the two stock holes and I bought a couple of short screws to mount the plate to the bracket

From what I have seen in Europe, the method is hold the plate where you want it, take any screw, zap it in. Not the best method, I agree. When we bought our CPO Puma from the dealer, I watched the guy do it. It is crooked.

Have seen a lot of Defenders here, none ever with double sided tape.

Best post. Ever.

You said it's strong enough to build with - can it also hold a tire carrier if I haven't drilled holes for one yet? And should the front license plate go in the middle, biased toward the driver or passenger (and if so how much?).

My UK plates were held on with double sided tape. Strong as nails...almost broke the plate in half taking them off.

Thanks for the Amazon link. That looks like a great option

Easy enough to drill if you need to remove the plate.
Fastest and easiest way in my opinion.
I am not a fan of rivnuts.
The way we do it as well...

Hard to have some ne'er-do-well casually remove the plate without a drill.

The problem with tape (from someone who has had to remove a dozen of UK plates that were taped on) is that the tape does not always want to let go when it's time and paint panels have been worse for it.

True. That would be a concern. In full disclosure, What I actually did was put black vinyl wrap over the euro plate and then stuck my TN plate to that.

It's simply a matter of thinking ahead. Tape may be the solution for right now, but what's it going to do to you down the road? Always think ahead.....
