3rd Brake Light LED Conversion

There may already be a kit to achieve this, but I did an LED conversion for my 3rd brake light today on the NAS 110.

The original 5 bulb set up was pretty dim....some of the bulbs were out, so I adapted the housing to still utilize the red lens, and very pleased with the output of the light, even through the window tint.

I have a sign shop and these are the LED modules we use to internally illuminate our channel letters. I can double check tomorrow, but I believe these are Principal LED's.

If there was any interest in purchasing, I suppose I could make up a few with the male connectors crimped on, ready to plug into the existing 3rd brake light wires. The only tricky part was cutting out the back of the old plastic bulb housing. I used a cut off wheel and it pretty much melted the plastic and require a little clean up of the drippings. Just had to be real careful not to go too deep and hit the pretty brittle red lens.

I've also used this type of LED's to make a light bar that would illuminate the rear of my 110....hooked to a switch inside the rear door. Pretty much lights up the whole truck.

why didn't you just go with led bulbs using existing sockets?

Yeah....as I stated there was probably already a kit, or at least another way to achieve this...but I had access to the LED modules and a little time to kill. Sometimes I tend to take the long way...ha!
