300tdi swap

Some photos here. I'm putting a 300tdi and a r380 into my 84. It's not as easy as I thought it would be. But it will be worth it I think. Hope to be done by MAR. Some photos here.

More later, need to go use what daylight I still have...

Looking good Dave. Sorry I've been a little pre-occupied with my own project to help much.

Great to see your pics and progress. I wish I had the know-how to do a 300 tdi swap. Unfortunately my mechanical skills are pretty dismal.

Thanks, there is nothing like the feeling when you disassemble a perfectly good running vehicle...

Nice job...the photos really help. Thinking of doing something similar, just not sure that i could put it all back together so that it works. I'll stick with the high mileage engine till it dies. Keep up the good work and the photos.

Doing that project outside in what appears to be a cramped space has to add another layer of complexity all of its own, I'd imagine...

Thanks, wish my cellphone camera would take better pictures. My regular camera bit the dust at Uwharrie after getting dropped on a rock during a night run "photo-op." The engine and transmission were purchased off ebay UK and came over with a bunch of other people's stuff. That was back in 2007 when I was planning to build the red 90 that I ended up parting out earlier this year. Meanwhile the engine has been lovingly stored and attended to under a tarp and plywood roof in my shanty-style backyard. Somewhere I have some shots of the timing belt change and other work that I did to it. I'll try to find those and add to the page.

thanks to JSQ for the idea of using the vacuum pump to prime the fuel lines. lift pump lever didn't do shite.
