where/who to build 110

Fellas,

I am done trying to find a 110 that fits all my needs. In brief, I want a 110 that is:

300 TDI
LHD
PUMA exterior/interior/dash/etc
automatic gearbox
rear A/C
leather seats
galvanized chassis
1-2" lift
tow package
sun roof
nice sound system with ipod capability.

Please give me a recommendation or two of a shop in the states that can do this well and in a reasonable amount of time.

Thanks for your effort.

You forgot something very important - budget?

Also, do some research. Start here.

Call Bryan or Stephen at Safari HP in Orlando. I think they are building one for a customer just like that right now. If you want to email me I know someone who is selling a LHD 300 TDI Double cab here in GA. It does not have the puma seats but you can get that from Exmoor trim USA. They have them in stock right now.

When you find this, order 2 and I'll take mine in Arles.

Just buy a Puma, there are several in the states for sale, would probably be cheaper in the long run than having one built. The six speed is sweet, clutch pedal is ten times softer than the older trucks.....

There's a 110 XS puma for sale in Manhattan, I saw and drove it two days ago! Like new and very clean inside and outside. Price is better than td5 at Autotrader and very low miles too.

Why did I not win the lottery?!

Sal, you need to call me when you test drive a puma like that... I would've tagged along! LOL

Don't think the Puma dash is compatible with a 300TDi. Foley's said they can't do it at least.

The rear a/c will be a tall order as they have been out of production for some time. These guys were the manufacturer http://www.eliteautomotive.co.uk/html/NewDefender.html

If anyone has a line on rear a/c, please let me know. I cant get elite to call me back (probably because they dont make the rear air anymore).

So after all this I guess you didn't go this route (judging by the below)? Did you contact everyone who was suggested in this thread and decide you were better off just bringing one in? Just curious. Let's hear your experience(s).

I am aware of at least 5 110 and 90's in the last few weeks that have been seized. Including one of mine.

DO NOT ship until further notice.

Yea, I think the size of the dash doesn't allow u to use standard shifter due with an r380, which isnt too bad of a fix, just change the shifter rod thing... may be more than that though but I'd heard abou this before.

As for the company I say get Foley in England to do it for you. Just don't have a new galv chassis because word is that customs are not letting old defenders on new galv chassis in. Also TD5 style defender is not to the period of 25 years or older so you would run the risk with importing it.

Josh, I have a feeling that this is the last we're going to hear from this guy for a while. I think he knew what he was doing in regards to his import; surely his importer set him straight.

I'm getting a little annoyed by buyers like this. To each his own and it's his money, no doubt, but I find it annoying that buyers want all of this stuff--the three hundy, the Puma kit, rear A/C, auto trans, etc.--but are too cheap to buy a NAS and do it legally.

I don't buy his argument that importation rules are purely subjective. If you change a motor, a dash, a gearbox, body panels, the seats, and the chassis, that's not a 25 year-old vehicle. Seriously, what's left? The rear view mirror and windscreen? This is not a subjective decision.
