The 130

Just picked up a 130, after looking at quite a few.
RHD, 2.5NA diesel.
Already had a 300Tdi bulkhead installed a few years back.

May clean up to sell, or drop in a 200Tdi and make this a keeper.
Already have a line on take off bed and tailgate, great shape, under 900USD.

First stop is going to ba a UK shop to ensure service and maint items up to date so I can drive/ferry it back to Germany.

Too bad RiverMike is so busy, I would let him work his magic.

Just got an email from seller, he has the box for the back and is going to throw it in!
I have no idea exactly what the hell the box is, factory, utility, most likely a chipper type. But I will take it if for no other reason than to have something covering the rear wheels on the trip home.

I have some dialog going with Foley's in UK to do initial work to make roadworthy.

It is a candy store, but you have to dig to find the good stuff. And for good prices. I think I got a pretty good deal on this one.

Mike- Thanks. I am sure I will bug you for tips and parts! Did that nice little 90 sell yet?

Nice find, I know how difficult it is to get the right deals.

If the box doesn't work out, I have a normal hi-cap 130 bed in The Netherlands, close to the ferry to UK, if you are interested.

Thanks Johan.

As you and Mike know well, the pre TD5 130's are getting harder and harder to find, let alone at a decent price. MattH picked one up in Norway, JimC got one in Gibratar or somewhere.

Finding a RHD is not all that easy either, and the right years for UK trucks are either rusted to hell or have had engine swaps. This one, while rough, is a good base and a legal to import unit. Basic maintenance, some new doors, paint, an ExMoor box of goodies, and a box will make it a good truck.

As you can see, the interior is...rough, lol. Puma rear seating, a diesel cab heater, and some decent matting and soundproofing.

I am a firm believer in refreshing all the floor seals, screws, and fittings. That and new windshield to bulkhead, vent, and roof seals will go a long way to stopping water ingress, and noise reduction.

Having done the YRM seatbox repair already on another truck, this one will be fine.

Got pics of the box that is going back on it. Was told he took off as the underside frame is rusty.

Decisions...

- Repair box frame, add some doors to box for gear access, slap our RTT on it.

- yank off from windscreen back and drop a Wolf ambulance body on it. Instant hard side camper. One guy in UK has Wolf ambo with a 109 roof grafted on the roof, actually can stand in the rear.
And can save the crew cab body for later/other.

- Place 130 bed on, and use removable camper. Shower and toilet included. Departure angle and COG affected. Pricey
https://www.tischer-pickup.com/en/mo...-cabins-260rs/

- Custom 4 door camper body add on with pop-up tent. Pricey.
Custom Campers - Land Rover 130 Crew Cab

Again, first order of business is to get roadworthy and safe. Oh, and legal. German plates and insurance!

You asked for opinions so here's mine.

Put a hcpu bed on it, thats the classic look and where the trucks highest value is. Get a good one now while you still can. Put the RTT on the cab roof. Had mine up there and it was fine except when running trails the brush tore the cover up. A hoop set and canvas over the bed keeps gear dry if you get the newer type with velcro and zippers as opposed to the early draw string type. Got mine from new from Foleys back in 2009 and the bed area is still leak free.
Stuart and Paul may give you some credit towards labor to swap if you give them the box.
They did that for us with a 127 rapier last spring.

A friend in Florida has an orange one with the utility box on it and its an abomination.

Fixed it for you. After I quit laughing out loud.

I guess I should snag the local box while I can.

Great find... that's just begging for one of Tom's camper bodies on it, :Tom's Fahrzeugtechnik or perhaps an Azalai:http://www.azalai.ch/Azalai_de/Press...flock_Mag2.pdf

I have been in contact with Stuart at Foley's for some time, and now am getting them to pick up the truck and take to their shop. Not having a garage f*ckin' sucks.

First order is to have them do a complete service and ensure roadworthy. If there are major issues I will probably push stateside to a forum member who has already asked for it for a customer build for his shop. I do not forsee that, so may actually have them do more.

Will either source a bed from them or locally, and be had cheap in very good condition still. Demand not yet skyrocketing. Mentioned Safety Devices cage to wife and she likes the idea, even if only the inner hoops. Would like to have 6 point but it may interfere with plans.

We have a Tepui on the LR4 at home, and a howling Moon on the Puma here so we get the RTT option. But I am in Germny, where there are so many other types of rigs. Going to look into Bimobil demountable. Yes, it will not fit the bed, but that can be stored for when we come back to the US.

Yes, it has rear overhang. Yes, it is almost over the top. (I have no issues with peeing in a bottle in the RTT when below 35 degrees. The wife does).

VIN question

I have been PM'ing Doug to death, so a VIN question for you 130 experts whilst I wait for my Heritage Certificate and date sheets.

TOPIX cannot find this VIN, CalVIN and VINDecoderz, along with manual VIN decode sites show SALLDHAC7BAxxxxxx as

SAL Land Rover
LD Model: Defender (for early models: Ninety, or One Ten)
H Wheel base: 110 inch
A Body type: 2-door: Pickup, hood cab, truck cab, or soft/hard top
C Engine type: 2.5 litre diesel (model 12J)
7 Steering and transmission: Right-hand drive (RHD), 5-speed manual (LT85, LT77, LT77S, R380 or other)
B Model year: 1985 to 1987
A Assembly location: Solihull, UK
xxxxxx Serial number

But the truck is a 4 door.
Should the A make me nervous with importing the truck as a 4 door?
I get the early trucks were 110s with and extra cut in 17". So no worries about the H.

Everything else checks out, 2.5NA with LT77.

Foleys has arranged to transport next week down to their shop. Will be good to see it get some work done.

Gotta love some eBay. Snagged an NTO box, tailgate, brackets, and rear cab section.
