Starting a new build

I just received my 1987 d90 I want to do a full restore. I have a few questions:
Pros n cons on carbs vs fuel injection ?
I personally like the smell of the fuel when u start it up.
And seems simple to do an old chevy 350
My concern is resell value. Should I go with the original v8 or maybe even a cannibal v8 ?
Then there's the ls1 or 5.3L vortec, I can scoop up pretty cheap. Again concerned about resell. Of course people selling the original LR engines say you loose value by installing an ls1. Others say some buyers want modern fuel efficiency. I'm not building to resell, but I'd hate to invest 50k and it not hold as much value.

Another question and challenge. Has anyone seen a dash conversion? I would like to try and install a modern defender dash in this 87 model.

Congrats! Whats in it now? This is just my personal opinion and I'm sure the purist will jump all over it but… I think messing with an NAS drive train would impact the resale value more. Go LS! the pure joy of having that much power will provide you more smiles and probably more dollars down the road.

Do whatever you want to it and search around a bit here for any questions you may have. Tons of threads on custom dashes from RHD to LHD, keeping it RHD or LHD, etc. plenty of threads on engine transplants as well. Value for non-NAS trucks is pretty moot - the value lies in it being a defender, here, and titled.

Did I mention it's as slow as a statue! Power is a problem and no A/C in the south is painful.
I do 45 up the bridges around here. Going to have to upgrade soon.

It don't need a new engine. Runs good just slow. I'd like to have power since it's my everyday driver.

I'll sell you a complete good running 3.5 rover v8 with twin carbs and it's associated transmission and transfer box assembly...was running perfect.. Pulled it out of a customers truck to do a 3.9 automatic conversion... You get the v8 power and still stay "original".. Shipping from here to you may be a bit..

Should be a serial number on it. Post the numbers and somebody will help you on here.

4 cylinder should have a lt-77 and 1.6:1 transfer box.. You could go to a 1.4 transfer box to get more speed but you won't have the power to push it...

And I stand corrected.. You are right ..I was thinking 110 for some reason.. Sooo..you could put a 1.2:1 and get more top speed but you won't have the power to push it...lol..

I'm not sure any V8 would hurt the value of a d90 that came 4cyl. LS would be the best choice as far as power and economy goes . The rover V8 maybe a little easier to swap due to the fact that it's mostly bolt in and easy to source things like powersteering hoses radiator hoses etc. a LS would require more homework and fabrication but a much more refined motor when done.
