He's right. The CT style cages(I have one) take up a lot of interior volume and could be hazardous for a back seat passengers head in a rollover, unless heavily padded...which takes up even more space. The exo also has the added bonus of saving the roof, windshield etc in a light rollover.(ie: Larry, uwharrie, someone else's NAS110)

Well you are going to have it for a few months before you take it in to get the work done. It'll be good for you both to have the time to drive it around as is first.

RHD is different and may not be for everyone, besides you could always do the conversion later.

Very nice truck! It seems like you are spending quite a bit of money on it already so I'd go LHD for safety and convenience.

And, plead with the missus to reconsider the color choice. If she doesn't like patina then show her some other LR colors. Keeping the roof white keeps it looking more like a traditional LR too.

Good luck with the build!

I need some help finding parts. One of the goals of this resto-mod is to update the looks to a newer spec 110. I know it has been done before, so I figure you guys are the best to ask. Where's the best place to find grills, headlights, and etc. to do this? Currently searching eBay. But, if there is a supporting vendor here who can help, I'd much prefer to give them the business.

OUCH!

Just ordered most of the mechanical parts for this project...excluding the engine and trans. No lube on that one.

Here's the run-down:
  • trans/tcase adapter
  • radiator
  • Accessory brackets
  • Engine mounts
  • OME medium-duty coils, 2" lift
  • Rancho 9000's
  • ARB's I've been very anti-ARB my entire 4 wheeling life, but they're the only option for this project. Hopefully I've been wrong all these years.
  • Winch
  • Mojave heater
  • Hooker headers
  • gauges

Still need DBW throttle, and a console shifter for the 6l80e with tu/td. Anyone have a wrecked Pontiac G8, or CTS they're parting out?

Plan is to install a newer Defender TD5 left-hand drive dashboard, swap the old skool 10-spline RHD f&r axles for newer Discovery 24-spline LHD axles w/ disc brakes (3 birds with one stone). Taking care of the steering, axle strength, and brakes for about half the cost of converting what I already have. Same donor vehicle will also provide the steering box, and possibly a spare t-case. The good news is, the D1 was pretty common in CO. Should be plenty in the boneyard.

And before anyone says it, yes, I considered staying RHD very seriously. But, with how torn down it will be, and upgrading the dash anyway, it just makes sense to do it now. I will miss the charm of being RHD.

Got some good news today! Found a 6.2L out of a 2014 Camaro with 2000 miles on it. Just need to swap the tail housing out for 4wd. Waiting on the extent of the damage before we pull the trigger. I can use the AC/heat components, the shifter (paddles!), factory cruise, trans cooler lines, BCM, trans module, ECU, and wiring.

Picked it up today!

Scared the ever-living $#!+ out of myself trying to drive it. Hitting 1st or reverse is a crap-shoot at best, and there seems to be a fueling/carb tuning issue. I know it hasn't been tuned for altitude, and the fuel pump needs to be replaced. Between those issues, being right-hand drive, and i25 traffic, I was at my wit's end getting it to our lot.

I was going to take some, but after the white-knuckle ride to my office, I decided to leave it there. Rush-hour traffic with fueling issues didn't seem like a fun time. If she makes it here tomorrow, I'll snap a few.

Got her home! This wasn't nearly as scary, but there's still some issues. Found an electric fuel pump mounted under the hood (on a piece of wood no less) that may have been their attempt to increase fuel pressure.

Mystery switches

More mystery switches. Possibly related to the aux fuel tanks?

Mystery socket

secondary pump

sweet throttle return spring.

Congrats!

If I were closer I would offer you the couch, but your wife might be more understanding than you expect. You well and truly have the sickness! What are you going to do with the "Rover" valve covers? Be interested in purchasing those from you if you were to sell.

Thanks for the offer! My plan is to drive this second one while the first one is under the knife, then sell it. Maybe hold on to it for my son when he turns 16. He'll have three years to work on it and get it ready. It's left hand drive, and looks like it's in slightly better shape than my other one. I figure that way, he'll have a cool car that won't go fast enough to get in trouble.

I'm going to try to sell the entire motor. Hopefully.
