I have had many rover-engined vehicles - land rovers and TVRs mainly - and to get even 300bhp and 320lbs/ft from a 5-litre rover costs many thousands of pounds and getting decent torque out of them is even harder.
Then add in the porous block issue, the rapid camshaft wear etc etc.
The 90 had a 4.3 TVR Rover V8 engine before the build - all the power was at the top end!
I had the 350 in the discovery - why not use it?
Thanks to Mr Eagle and Mr Edelbrock I have a monster engine that is proven to be reliable and gives out more grunt than any Rover V8 could ever mange no matter how much money you throw at it.
Here is a little high-revving 4.0 Rover my friend built for a classic MGB Racer - 275 bhp at 7500 rpm but no more than 260lbs torque anywhere!
