As I wait for new rings/shells I installed the rear bench seat. Folds forward against bulkhead, good legroom and still cargo space behind seat when in use. Happy.

Progress. New rings installed on pistons. My thumbs hurt but didn't break any of the new rings. Dropping in pistons tomorrow evening. Head back on this weekend. Drive in hard to work Tuesday to help rings bed.. Wheel it the 14th to help more

Adam, you sure do move fast. LOL.

My engine is still in the shop with new oversized pistons and bearings.

I hear that the new pistons I got had rings installed already and I have been advised these are premachined. But I was told that if unchecked it is possible the ring can break under expansion if too tight?

Yes you want to check the rings inside the bore off piston. you can use piston to square up the ring. Mine were within tolerance with std ring and bore.

I have heard you can file ring ends to adjust gaps if too tight

So after breaking a new oil control ring during installation saturday, Mr. Davis shipped me a replacement the next day. Buttoned her up tonight. Started right up. No more smoke. And..... No pressure out oil cap anymore, none! I'll sleep well tonight.

Nice job Adam and well deserved. You get my vote for the dude with the most freaking energy!! Bobeck and I were saying just the other day...that Adam dude has got the energy of a mad man.

Something I'd like to do soon is a compression check to set a baseline. I also need to start a list a of little things I notice need to be done or checked. This stuff never ends. I mentioned this in another post yesterday and I'm serious. Ignorance is so bliss. When you don't know what you don't know the stress level is noticeably lower.

haha. From pistons out to up and running is about 3.5 hours. These tdis are just nuts and bolts easy which makes it fun. But let me get a few K miles on the rings before I jinx myself.

Adam:
Very good news!
Glad to be of assistance... To quote UD, that's how we roll.
