Defender Restoration Shop Recommendations

Fellow forum members-

I've contemplated jumping into a complete restoration to include engine replacement and galvo chassis myself but it's just not going to happen anytime soon (i.e. until retirement which is a long ways off).

Therefore, i'm looking for referrals where I can send my 95 Defender which is in good shape overall with only 55k miles. The motor is tired and there are areas of corrosion in all the typical places so the project won't be as bad as others i've seen.

I'm in the Colorado area and know of some great mechanics around here but not full restore companies. Shipping is not a problem but not looking to use ECR.

Thoughts / recommendations / referrals are certainly appreciated.

Stephen at Safarihp... Gotten the chance to know him personally and this guy goes the extra mile.. Really loves what he does and his quality/cost is first rate.

Here is a strong endorsement.

I just had my D90 shipped to Ash as well. I'll be sure to detail my ultimate results but so far in the early going I've been really impressed.

Gbr

GBR Performance has the expertise, although not necessarily known for full on rebuilds.

Thanks fellas- i'll be hitting you up for more info once i contact some of the shops to determine their interest levels. A sticky might be a good idea as several of the shops I have tried contacting (even from posts just a year ago) are no longer in business, changed their names / numbers, etc... i.e. Alchemy Automotive up the road in Boulder.

Regarding the motor- it's burning through about a quart of oil every 3000 miles and seems to chug a bit more than in the past (hills i used to go up in 3rd now require 2nd gear). Have the gut feeling that it's about to leave me stranded so I'm reluctant to take my 3 kids in it too far from home so looking to get it through a full restoration process.

In addition to Stephen at Safari and Ash at Geared Restoration, there are several threads about Brian at Defenders Northwest as well. Worth searching the forum for them and others. Good luck!

Defender Shops

Have bought parts from SHP. Good guys.
Ash is helpful and knows his stuff.

I have a 50k deposit in at East Coast Defender. Over a year, no truck, no refund; both have been promised at one time or another by them (before they started using local labor, they had a nearby shop doing their resto's, and passed them off as their own)

Time to give them a visit with the lawyer by your side.
Or kiss the ca$h goodbye?

Look up PROject KONG on Facebook. That's my truck. Work done by G&T Auto Imports in NJ. Frankly, can't get a better price and honest work.

I always wondered who's truck that was. Why on earth did you paint the foam cage and is it even holding the paint?
