So I stumbled upon a rare D90 in pieces here in Japan and spent the past few weeks assembling it. Best of all, it's already set up for rock crawling, complete with 3 link suspension front and rear, remote reservoir oil filled shocks, winch, crawler tcase, and hi-torque electric motor.

Yep, it's electric, and....1/10 scale. I'm no longer roverless.

The kit is an Axial SCX-10 Dingo (Defender-ish body). The kit with everything to build and control it was about $450. As a plug for Overland Journal I spotted the Axial kits in their mag.

It's literally a kit, and you assemble everything - diffs, tranny, axles, suspensions, shocks, and chassis.

There is a big market for RC parts for the SCX-10 kit, and I was able to find a bumper and working winch ( with remote!).

I am still waiting on the D90 body to show up, but you can get SD racks, snorkels, lights, and all sorts of other kit.

It crawls awesome over all sorts of mini terrain. I'll post pseudo-wheeling pics soon.

Just don't try to bring it back, I heard CBP is seizing those at the border if they look the least bit out of spec.

That yellow zip tie should be black, impound it!

That just could be my next Rover no trailer or AAA needed.

You might beat Charles at building an electric rover!

Does ARB make locking diffs for RC trucks?

What's the chances that if you owned one it would just end up in pieces in the corner of your garage?!?

Sure is! You can even get tree straps and snatch blocks for "proper" winching.

I did. It's made by Axial, total was about $450 for everything. You order over the phone from Tower Hobbies.

http://www.axialracing.com/products/ax90021

The winch and bumper were another $100 on ebay, the D90 body is $60 on eBay.

A few poseur shots while I wait for the D90 body and other parts to show up.

I totally nerded out and even got scale synthetic winch line with Viking safety thimble and hawse, pull pall, D rings, ax and shovel, and other dorky things.

This RC thread is a slippery slope and this is where it ends up - in the gutter. Literally.
