Fook. Just found the brand new tank is leaking a nice steady whizz of diesel. leaking around the hole in the double bottom so its somewhere inaccessible.

Elephant hide from Julian at Exmoor Trim via Arthur at Rovers North. About $100 per yard.

Breaking down 300 tdi.
2 somewhat annoying aspects are a stuck injector and a stripped oil pan bolt head. Really disliking these 10mm headed m6 things. I think I'll pop for the 12 point ones.
At a standstill until those issues are resolved. Sending injector pump off for rebuild...

Frustrating I know Bill. The turbo bolts on mine were a nightmare. Start soaking now I guess and cross those fingers.

It's all broken down except I haven't gotten the pan loose yet. I am not certain it needs bore over it has some light scoring. I suppose I should since I'm in this far.

Great news from the machine shop! Looks like the 300 is in excellent condition! Needs only a quick hone and a polish on the bearing journals...no expensive over bores or new pistons so it can all go back together with only new bearings and rings. Yay.
Order placed for the parts. So ill wind up with a zero time engine for roughly 3 grand. Perfect!!!!

Yikes - I missed that you had to pull the motor out and rebuild it.

Very good to hear you don't have to get too deep on the rebuild!

Don the truck is still up and running with the first engine. This one is getting the old switcheroo when it is built and ready to drop in. Then it will have a more or less new engine, which I shoulda done at the outset...

Intelligent approach Bill. Often discussed but rarely executed it seems to me.

How do you mock up the motor mounts on the frame for the swap from 200 to 300?

Yup. That's pretty fast for him. It's a one man operation and he has tons of work. He's the only person I would want to do the job.

So it's ready to drop? I'm at the beach next week but fairly flexible in July.

Clay I still have to do a lot of work to ramp up to the actual swap. Need to fab a RH side mount, clean up a bunch of janky castings, re inventory everything to be sure it's all there, move engine and truck to the barn, and get the work area ready. July may be optimistic. I will let everyone know with several weeks lead time.
