Thanks for sharing that link! So..... chromate conversion coating is the new galvy? [reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromat...ersion_coating "The chromate coating acts like a paint, protecting the zinc from white corrosion, this can make the part several times more durable depending on chromate layer thickness."]

Bling! Lucas SFT 576s and SFT 700s. Some slight pitting on the 700s. 700s are spot beam and the 576s are driving/fog beam.
All from ebay uk
Shipping about doubled the prices so this is about 250-275 ish total in dollars. Only one is non op as it has no bulb.

So to update:
Weather too rainy to paint so doing other stuff.
Brakes bled, pedal good and solid.
Installed lowered shock mounts (Equipe front TF rear) much better.
Ground off all the door edge parts that still needed it and installed Defender style weatherstripping seals. The worst area is the lower middle door where the "dogleg" piece is. Three thickness together there and the seal is hard to push on.
All doors needed readjusting so that took some time.
Installed original latches in the doors. Installed original strikers. They don't fit the Defender T pieces, so the old nut plate didn't work. Bottom bolt had to have a fat washer with a half moon slice taken off due to a weird bit of bent metal inside the post right where the striker has to go. sheesh. Middle doors close and latch so good-o. Fronts tomorrow along with seat box.
Worked on the turbo manifold. Unstuck and un rusted all that was rusty and stuck. Found a stud in my stash to fill in the missing exhaust stud. Manifold ready to go on.

Bill try and throw some blue painters tape on the dogleg part of the seal to help keep it in place.

Drivers latch repair. Fatigue crack of upper mounting hole. Latch plate soaked in muriatic acid to strip it. Blob welded, ground and filed. Plated.
PS:
Crap! All the step by step pics are lost. Oh well trust me it was a good save.

Getting the dash and wiring together.
Fabbed up a panel for the Auber boost and egt gauge. It'll have the high beam switch and the windshield wash fluid pump( the manual one) on it too.
Rolled the edges with a plastic hammer and the aluminum clamped in angle iron. Made the corners with a socket clamped in with a big c clamp. Trimmed it all up with air shears. Made hole with dremel wheel.

It's all in the details. Stuff like using the right crimp tool and terminals. Using the old switches. Replating the light. Finding the Lucas spot lights.
Exhausting.

See that fitting on the license plate light? It's actaully a rivet that I drilled and tapped for the little stud on the lamp bracket, then I cut a slot for a screwdriver. That took a half hour or so.
