chassis from UK

I am planning to do put a new galvanized chassis under my 1984 LR110. With the current exchange rate, it seems that ordering direct from Richards and picking it up at the port may be the cheapest route. Anybody done this?

They pack the chassis in a special shipping crate. They have quoted prices that put it below all of the US retailers. Also, it seems that shipping within the US is about the same as shipping overseas.

It usually makes sense to bring more than one over at once.

Maybe he figured ever build starts with a frame.

You're slipping a bit, you actually answered the question before you corrected him!

I didn't know where to post as this is for a truck build up. If I should post elsewhere, let me know.

I got the shipping quote from Richards a couple of days ago. They provided quotes for shipment to Norfolk, VA and Baltimore, MD. Not sure of the shipper.

It would make more sense to ship more than one. Not sure at what point the price goes down. Probably when it fills a container, but we can ask. I am open to that option.

I'd be interested in adding a 130 chassis to the order if you guys want to ship them together.

We're looking into bringing 2 to NY.
Question is where, VA, NY or Florida? If we go as a group

I usually do a crate at a time. I am putting together another order together now so if anyone is interested let me know. You have to remember that there ends up being a bunch of hidden fees that they nail you with once parts arrive.

Sounds like VA is centrally located.

Part of the reason for my original post was info on any hidden fees. Are these dock fees, import tariffs, taxes, etc.? I order parts from UK suppliers all the time, but never anything this big.

When you say "a crate at a time" do you mean one chassis or a container? Richards charges 200GBP for the crate.

I have a continuous CBP bond that we could potentially use if you guys are open to sharing services. One of you would need to crate my chassis separately if they stack them together. Fastenal might take it or I can have it picked up.

For a 110 with a few extras (200tdi cross, td5 tank setup, 110 rear floor brace thing he)
I'm looking at around $2750. Incl crate and shipping. That's with 2 crates together.

------ Follow up post added August 18th, 2016 11:44 AM ------

RN is at $3400 w/o the extras I want.

Here's what I would expect:

Duties - 2.5% I believe
Merchandise Processing Fee - 0.3464% (Min $25)
Harbor Maintenance Fee - 0.125%
Courier/Security Fee - ~$30
Clearance/ISF Fee - $125

I didn't see anything on Lucky 8's website. They usually have the best price. RN was way expensive. AB comes in about middle. My problem is that they want another $800+ to ship to VA. I would rather use that cash for something else, like springs/shocks.

I also need the 110 2.5/200 with gearbox crossmember but with standard steel fuel tank setup.

My brother works in the shipping business. I think if we had enough to fill a container, he could help us out. I'll post what I can find. Looks like we currently have at least 4 or 5 people interested. Not sure what warrants a full container.

Unless someone is already looking at 5-8k in shipping, I wouldn't consider a container. Pretty much guaranteed to get "randomly selected" and there's no telling how many days of storage they would have to pay after CBP puts it on hold until they get to it plus the exam fee.

Interested in a 110 - 200tdi chassis RHD.. $2750 seems like a great price (even with Canadian exchange)

What is this "110 rear floor brace thing he" you speak of?

It's the cross brace under the floor under the middle row seats in a station wagon configuration.
