On a different note, my latest rental car had LED headlights.

Drove through fog as well as dark road to use high beams.

My Saab has HID for high and low beam and these were almost as nice.

The lights on my RR are the DOT approved Hellas and they suck especially over here.

Have seen a few Defender folks install Truck Lite LED lights and am thinking about the same although I did have real Hella E-code on the green RR and they were pretty good.

What are you thinking about for the headlights unless there are no plans for night driving and the stock lights will be fine.

Great question... while the trucklites are cool, I have to check them out in person at night before I decide if I want to mess with the appearance of the front end that much. BUT I have been eyeing some stock-ish appearing glass replacement lamps with built in projectors, which might work really well with a HID setup... and not look any different than original during the day.

That could be very cool. Would you have to change some wiring though? HIDs as mentioned are great on my Saab for light, however, the downside is the replacement bulb is U$300.00 each. Still on my OEM set, yet, not looking forward to replacement day. The light output though is awesome.

Maybe some slight wiring changes, nothing difficult though. Certainly not any more dramatic than what I've already done to the seat switch, or than what I'll end up doing for the stereo, or the mirrors.

I've put in another order for seat covers, but it doesn't look like they will be done before URE. And now I am having to fix the transmission in my Mercedes before I can start on the Range Rover transmission...

Very good price as my MTRs were more and can't keep them in balance for more than about 2,000 miles.

My OEM wheels were trashed by the PO and have found a replacement set in GB that might help the balance. For sure will at least look better.

How true to original are you planning?

Only tasteful modifications will be performed... and nothing that couldn't be undone. I am not the type to take such a rare truck and butcher it at all. That said, most of the EAS system has been removed already, so I will be tidying that up by removing the remainder. The coil springs are a very tame OME Medium Duty. Keeping stock type shocks on the truck, at least for now. Obviously the original Borg Warner transfer case is coming out, and the tires are a little bit larger and more agressive...

Good.
I consider the Borg to be a bad factory mod, so putting in the LT230 is actually restoring to more original specs.

I kinda disagree. I actually missed the BW when i went to the LT230 in my old classic. I did some pretty crazy trails with just a BW and open diffs. Some dude in an FJ once asked me, after i went up some stupid kind of rock infested ridge, what kind of lockers i had. he was floored when i told him just a VC coupled center diff.

yes they fail, but when they work, i think BW are pretty great. And super quiet.

Ok I have everything except the other half of the bellhousing bolts off, that's enough for today.
