I peeled up some around the edges and didn't see a single spec of rust... I hope this isn't the case. There are no other spots on the truck at all, granted I haven't checked the loadspace or passenger footwell, but everything is really clean.

You're gonna have to get a look at those front flap brackets.

I'm going to clean up all the dirt on Wednesday, I may get to it. It seems to be in strips. I'm a little nervous about taking it out, and yes it still seems glued down.

I'm worried...
Is this a '95 Classic?
Get a thick scraper of some kind and get that pad up for a look-see.

It's a 95 25th anniversary... I got most of the pad up, couldn't get to the bracket, but it is extremely clean under there all the way up to the bend.

certainly is. on both my '93 and '94 the pad was not glued in place - could be a '95 deal?

I cut mine into small pieces and threw it out.

Then POR15'd everything to make sure no rust would continue as on the driver's side by the flap bracket there was rust.

After getting the back edge up the rest came up easy, just the edges appeared to be glued.

Console

Joel,

Great job on the truck!

I was looking to do something similar to the original center console on my 95 with some black spray on rubber coating. Wasn't aware that the disco console was a drop in. Can you review what year disco console will work and the modification steps...also what other dash/console/shifter/interior bits are interchangeable? Thanks

Sorry I missed URE this year....hope to catch you next year or at the Spring event.

The 95 RRC console is the same as any D1 with automatic transmission and without power seats- only the Range Rover version was wrapped in textured vinyl. I didn't put a disco console in this truck, but if you wanted to, you would not need to modify it.
The shift indicator assembly is widely advertised as being the same as in the D1, 95 RRC, and 97 D90 but in reality the disco version is slightly different. The shifter itself and the knobs are the same. The console lid is interchangeable with any discovery model 1994 to 2004. The larger style cup holders that began showing up on 2002 discovery models fit perfectly, as does the dash cup holder delete, which I illustrated. The rubber mat on the top of the dash and the HVAC controls are the same as all Disco 1 models. The center dash facia panel, side vents, glovebox, instrument cluster bezel, passenger airbag, and driver side fuse panel door are all unique to the 95 RRC as is the dash pad assembly itself.

That fits Disco 1 or 2 but the rubber console mat has to come from a D1 with auto transmission to work in 95 classic.

Doug (Roving Beetle) swapped in a Disco II dash into his RRC. From the pictures he posted it looked pretty good.

Yeah I sold him that RRC! And look what he went and did to it! That truck wasn't a 95 though, it's a 93 so it had a different dash to begin with. It was not a direct swap, he has done lots of fabrication to get it to fit. Doug's a good guy, I got my quarter panel and some other hard to find parts from him. Plus he builds million dollar boats or something like that so he was able to make his own parts when needed.

Before I forget I should probably list my current issues

Drivers seat belt "button" missing
AC inoperable
Driver's lower door hinge issue
Rattle in RH lower dash area
Some of the "new" door seals not working great
A few switches in the dash not working (dome light, etc)
Radio back light out
Catalytic converters rattling

To do list
Instrument cluster bezel repair
Strip and powder coat roof rack
Finish detailing chassis/wheel wells
Trim/reinstall front valance maybe?
Replace steering linkage components and align

Maintenance
Renew cooling system components, thermostat, all hoses, etc
Evaluate condition of brake discs and pads, wheel bearings, etc
Replace brake hoses
Replace power steering hoses

I'm seriously considering refinishing the original alloys and using them instead of the steel wheels. Or painting the steelies white. Or maybe white wolf wheels.
