90 Rust Opinion

All,

New to the board and the Defender world. Are there some willing members out there that could look at some pictures of a 1995 and help me decide between one of these outcomes:

-The rust profile looks "reasonable" for these vehicles. This is not a Hemmings car, but would certainly be a reasonable daily driver and if you keep up with the rust abatement in the future ... you and your defender should have a long and happy life.

-Run and hide. The rust and its cancerous future have already cursed this 90, run quickly away from this vehicle.

If there is a knowledgable member or two that could help I'd appreciate a PM. Since the vehicle is owned by a current member, I don't want to post pictures openly start a tread on someone elses Defender.

Thanks in advance.

Because this is someone elses truck I rather do this via email and PMs. Some of the most loyal owners I've experienced so don't want to offend the current owner.

Why don't you ask the owner if it's okay to post pics here? As Reese said, that's the best way to do it.

Get photos of the rear crossmember, and frame rails. Also the outriggers and bottom of the bulkhead.

Beautiful .... what an amazing looking vehicle ... you are so lucky to have secured one of the highly desirable ... lowest production models ... clearly a person of exquisite taste!

So I guess mteibel doesn't get a truck then. Matt how many does this make for you? Are you at one for each day of the week yet?

Truck's a J Whites. They're going over it, making recommendations and maybe putting a fiberglass top on it. Truthfully, the rig needs more work than I'd hoped it would. I'm not sure you missed out on anything. It drives great and minimal rust but cosmetically...it's a mess. As a newbie, I'm not sure you would have enjoyed paying in the $20k's for your first Defender, not being able to use the truck for 2 months because its in the shop and then, having to cut a check for an additional $5k...the low average estimated cost of making a neglected Defender right. That being said, unless you buy the right truck from Copley, Rovertrader, ECR and a few others...I would plan on spending $5k, after sale within the first few months, on most any Defender you buy.

Are you in NC? I'm from Wake Forest. If I can help you find your first Defender, please let me know. My brother "Willh", on this forum, is also a tremendous resource.

Happy Hunting!

Matthew
