#646 prep for paint...

Many many thanks to my brother Will for tearing the truck down today. He may not own a rover anymore but, he's still got it! Thanks Brother!

No worries! Hopefully, we can get her to the body shop this week. Gotta run to Lowes and pick up some sheet aluminum to cover up the holes from the hack job done on the rear panels for those aftermarket tail lamps. Speaking of which, we're in the market for a set of used rear tail lamps if anyone has a set lying around!

Gonna' pull the flares and front bumper sometime today, as well as pull back the fuel filler neck to keep it from getting sprayed. Aside from the repair mentioned above, she should be good to go for paint! We're thinking white again, unless someone has a better suggestion!

Paint prep is fun. Who is painting it?

Why not replace the rear panels with something factory?

Three reasons: expense, time, & purpose. New panels are fairly hefty in price (around $350+ for a pair new). On the other hand, Aluminum sheet is fairly inexpensive (Less than $25 for all I would need) and is readily available at Lowes with no need to wait on parts to be shipped. In addition, removal of the whole panel would require additional time. Finally, the 90 is not meant to be a concourse level vehicle, just a fun truck to putt around in. Not worried about value as my brother has no intentions of letting her go again. Just needs to be functional.

I think you'll be hard pressed to see a difference between factory and the repair when I'm done.

I think this one is close to CT. Looks sharp, I like the older series pastel color too or a blue but that's just my personal preference. Could be fun to pick something not in the NAS line up.

Not sure yet. Waiting for a few quotes to come back. Wanting something professional but relatively inexpensive. Truck has already been 3 to 4 different colors. Again, not a show truck.

If you like this, you should see some of the Jeeps our brother Ben has built! You can check out his site here:

Tear down for paint; Round #2. Body cappings, front bumper, grill surround, wheel flares, headlights and doors removed. As well are some misc. small bits. Just need to fab the rear panels and the she'll be off to paint near the beginning of the week.

Decided to take her to our local Maaco. Last I heard, the plan is to spray her white. Hope to pick her up following the Holiday weekend and begin the reassembly process.

I vote Sand Glow as you would expect, but Molten would be very cool as it is a bit hard just to get the code, and of course Tangiers?? Must say the Sahara Tan came out very nice on the 110, and so easy to get touch up, not that Matt will ;-) Could be important if an accident is incurred however, for say a wing panel...

Truck looks great- hard to believe how long ago those Richland Gap trips were!!

Fabrication and test fit of new rear body panels (covers). No more hideous aftermarket lights! I went ahead and marked all the holes so I can pre-drill them before sending the truck to paint. I think they turned out pretty well, if I do say my self.

Those rear panels that Will fabricated look great. And those cappings are always forgiving for any edges that weren't cut quite perfectly. Are you going to put the 1994 style rear lights back there or 1995/97 style, or something else?
