2002 RR P38 Westminster edition

As many of you already know I have started a p38 "build" mild. Previously messed with disco's but wanted to move on to something different. Picked this up with lift and spring conversion already installed but it had an overheating problem (risky) and some other issues. I threw in new head gaskets with ARP studs and crossed my fingers, 400 miles and so far so good.. stumbled across a SD rack and put on some Terrafirma sliders (lucky8). Sliders were somewhat painful getting holes drilled and aligned but they are sweet, great protection and step is a plus.

As purchased

Ordered sliders from Lucky8. Not sure why I have a smiley face in original thread.

Nice looking truck! I love the design of the p38, If I was a mechanic I would own one. What size tires are those. Looks really nice.

I have been slowly working on a few things. Winch bumper has been fabricated (Alan @ rockrover) and powder coated, should be in Monday. Pulled stock bumper in anticipation. Flipped double cordan front driveshaft, previous owner installed it with good intentions but had the cv joint towards the front. No more vibes. Installed led flood and spot lights, one rear flood. These put out some serious light. Needed the low profile as well in order too clear the garage opening.

Do the P38s have lockers like the Disco2? Where the discos are manual, are the P38s auto?

Not familiar with the P38s.

Sorry. My mistake. The disco2 I was in at SCARR had lockers. It was after market if I remember correctly.
My corrected question is 'does the P38 have a locking differential'? If so, how is engaged? The discos I've seen are manual, similar to the defenders and RR classics.

Do you mean center diff lock?

Well. I believe so. I'm new to LRs. I rode in two at SCARR. One guy said he had lockers (aftermarket?); believe his was a 2002.
My brother-in-law has a 2004 and he said to look at purchasing a 2004, as it comes with a locking diff that is different than the prior years. ???

Again, I'm new to this LR stuff. Alas, I've got the bug. I was completely amazed at the off road capabilities. I'm just trying to learn more prior to purchase and identify vehicle years I should look for (e.g. 2004 disco, 95 RR classic?, etc). I was wondering how the RR lock their diff, as interior pictures don't show a manual shifter like a disco2.
Any clarification on the question would be appreciated. Additionally, I welcome any suggestion, as to year and models to strongly consider until I can step up to a defender.

No center locker on the P38. There's a viscous coupler, but thats's the extent of it.

The only "locker" that came stock on the discos, range rovers, and defenders was a center diff lock in the transfer case. RangeRovers eventually eliminated it, I can't keep track of what they did on the discos. I believe it was ditched in favor of the traction control stuff.

When most folks refer to lockers they are referring to locking diffs in the axles which are all after market on the rovers as far as I'm aware.

The P38 is an awesome truck. I have a 1995 that is my daily driver. On the weekends is gets used to skid logs, push over fence posts, pull stumps, and tow a 14' trailer that is typically overloaded. I believe this version has the difflock once dropped into low range. It also has traction control on the rear axle (the 2002 has it both front and rear) which uses brake modulation to counteract spinning. If you drop it in low range and down in first, it will drag a couple of tons up a hill or crawl up rocks better than some tricked out heep, and that is just idling...push on the accelerator and it will really do some work.
