there is an autralian who has built a 1/4 mile dragster out of a 90, his first unit was built on a series chassis.
he wrecked the series and went ahead to the build and race the 90.
do a google search on it....

Knowing a bunch of drag racers, I can say with conviction that you will never see a drag racing defender with a winch bumper and winch. These guys cross drill everything to lighten it, and even have body shell's acid dipped to thin the metal down to save weight. That said, defender bodies weigh next to nothing.....

Probably not a quarter mile "drag racing" candidate. Bonneville, definitely.

I love this in a weird way. It's really a thought problem...it all boils down to drag coefficient, and (I suspect) really about ways to reduce drag by reducing boundary layer separation since the minimum frontal area is fixed. Aerodynamically speaking, that's an interesting problem.

The question then becomes how much horsepower do you need for the bluff body to reach 200mph, and how much power can you make in the volume contained within the engine bay?

Depending on how the aerodynamics are designed, the answer could be anything from 800hp to 3000hp+. Obviously, above a certain amount of aerodynamic drag, 200mph is impossible to hit because the specific output of the engine required is impossible to build.

Ed, now I see you're thinking of the idea I gave you when you first acquired your 90 "the low rider with lime green pearl paint and 100 spoke wheels"...

I have people down south man, I'm thinking low rider magazine front page..lol

Speaking of Bonneville, horsepower, and drag coefficient, look what I saw today at the local store parking lot. It had just returned from the flats and was pulling double duty as a grocery getter. I think he left the salt cake on it for street cred! Lol Ford engineers got this one right ;-)

The car deserved a better owner, though. Guy was a bit of a Douche.

Haha! Too bad. There was a nice guy in a classic pony car trying to chat him up as I was approaching. He asked the GT owner how long he'd had it. Heard him say that he'd been buying and selling them for the past 20 years. I'm guessing the guy in the mustang smelled flipper and disengaged. Perhaps this guy flipped an original 40 at one time, but he hasn't been owning and selling this gen for very long.

Ironic (aptly for this site) that the Mark I-III had some British heritage ;-)

He is one of the biggest ford gt dealers in the country. He and another guy in Arkansas which is who I use pretty much have the market cornered.
