My wife and I drove it from Ft. Worth to Bill's home. My point was that if the brake switch was bad then, not only would I not have had brake lights (which I did), we wouldn't have been able to get it out of Park. If PO had disabled the solenoids you mentioned, it'd still seem we'd have had no brake lights, no?

Dunno what about nuttin. All I can say is that when I went to fool with the cruise control hose I noticed the brake switch loose. I pulled it out and found the plastic tab that holds it in place one was broken off. Swapped in new one badda bing.
The PO removed all the shift interlocks when they swapped in the LT230. They had the speedo sensor wires hooked up to the diff lock warning switch. I haven't test driven it, but I hope the speedo works now.

Good deal.
All the euro guys on RRnet laugh at us and our NAS safety features...why cant I shift my truck outta park??
My LWB had a '88 LT230(no solenoids) and I removed the trans shifter solenoid myself.
I guess '93 was the first year of those??

There is (was) a lock solenoid on both the shift lever and the (Borg Warner) transfer case lever. For the transfer case to unlock you have to be in either P or N. There's an audible alarm for when it is popped out of gear or you are being bad or something.
Now that I have done away with all that Thought Police goodness I am sure I will bust something.

On mine I deleted the LT230 lockout. The neutral warnings are easily hooked up wrong during an LT230 conversion because of different style connectors used to do different things on different model LRs. For giggles on my 95 I tried to see if I could work oit how to retain as much functionality as possible but it just laughed at me. With no lockout whats the point of the N buzzer anyway. I just jumped the neutral warning connector by clipping the pigtail off the BW warning switch and connecting the wires together. What was interesting though was that the connectors for the difflock switch were present in the gbox/tbox harness even though that truck never came with difflock. Folded back and taped off.

So, what hear you saying, Bill, is we've spent more time and energy discussing this than it took you to fix it! Attaboy! See you Thursday.

Dash and console back in. Yet another issue developed. PO failed to adjust the shift cable properly. When it looks like it's in neutral it's in drive.
Getting close tho.
Last major thing: Interior lights fail to come on when door opens or when dash button is pushed. Puddle lamps yes, so must be wire loose.

Shifter sorted. Test drove around the block. All systems go except for a crap load of trim and the headliner.

My shifter was like this after I swapped a tcase in.
It was slightly off for each selection.
Don't know how it caused it-I didnt do anything except the BW off + LT on.
I just adjusted the cable end under the truck.

I found a couple things about the shift lever assembly were wrong. First, the PO busted it out with a hammer and broke the ears off where the little screws go to hold it on the tunnel. Second they had done something to the lever so that the detent assembly was all f'd up.
Swapped it with the one from the black truck. Then adjusted the position of the shifter box all the way back in the slots. This moves the tape rearward in the indicator, cz the lever doesn't go as far forward.

Yay. All wrongs righted. At least the physio-mechanical ones. Last on the list was a erroneous middle brake light. Turns out some bloody blook had pulled three out of four wires out of the connector. This meant taking out the entire tailgate harness so I could solder the torn out wires. All nipped up now and all lights working. Even went all out and put the led in the dome light!
Next step is passing Maryland inspection.

Since you mention putting an lt230 in a pre-95, can anybody provide photos of what they did to the center console to allow 'diff lock' to be engaged? I'm getting close to that point and hate to cut up my nice console...

YMMV...I had to cut my console just like the '87-'88 console.
Just removed the left side coin tray.

shown below is my '88 console; not the actual one in lwb

Ron the headliner is out. Cosmetics will be addressed in time.

------ Follow up post added December 4th, 2014 10:23 PM ------

The t case shift bracket for the slushbox fits the existing hole with plenty of swing to lock the center diff. If you have the proper parts it is very clean.
