He was poking a little fun. The Discovery 3 went out of production in 2009. Obviously Disco 4s

I spoke to the powers that be a while ago and there were 2 main reasons for not continuing the camel trophy .. One was the association and flack cigarette companies were getting but I was told the main reason was that it was becoming an environmental no no to go "crashing" through the jungles... I was told this is why they were doing a lot more special events and less driving...

Here were numerous times that the event ran into activist and conservation groups..

I thought they stopped it because they finally realized it made anyone associated with it look like a clown.

That only came about when they started to use honda crv's..and maybe a little when they used freelanders and needed 2 support vehicles for each freelander..

Nah, they all pretty much looked like clowns from the very get-go. Uniforms! Cripes, what frippery. In a Series 3. The horror.
This is the exact kind of foolery that made the brand into a joke of itself.

To be fair, G4 made the brand a joke, not the CT.

I did send links and quoted posts from Brent in December when Webb asked me to help him. These were quotes that showed Brent knew the value of the truck before going to court.

One thing I don't understand is why everyone is upset that he used the truck as a snow plow and farm tool. That is the very essence of what Land Rovers were built for in the first place. It had done its job training CT participants and was still being used for work. Did it have to be fully restored for that? What would the truck have to be used for, jungle trips only? How many other Rovers out there never see dirt in their lifetime? This truck spent all of its life in, on, and around it. Hell, even LRNA didn't care enough to fix up the truck after falling off the transport. It seems they had the chance and money to do it and no one is coming down on them for that. Just sayin'...

With that said, so what's the big deal about it being sold then?

It's just a land rover, right? Another vehicle that you buy and sell, drive wherever and such? Why doesn't brent just buy a random D1 and give it to Webb to plow and use around the farm?

Jeff, please stay on topic. This has morphed into Johnny Dangerously quotes (or other obscure 80s films), unsolicited pompous lawyer advice, and discussions on how the tobacco industry should be ashamed of their affiliation with the Land Rover event that bore it's name.

This is something that struck me about the situation. Imagine some ebayer buying the Camel truck and rolling down Black bear pass after purchasing it from Tohelluride. Only to find out said ebayers insurance company will not cover the vin number after the accident. So they goe back to the true owners to sue and find out LRNA is the actual owner.

I do not believe it was really legally transferred to Webb until I see some paperwork that clarifies the terms of the original bond. I think LRNA is still the legal owner and liable for the property.

Quote from Shayne "I could definitely see LRNA wanting to get this vehicle back even if purely from a liability issue... Imagine if the next owner had a car accident with fatalities and then it was found to be a non-compliant show/display vehicle only.. not permitted for use on public roads... Boy... Major lawsuit with land rover as t"

------ Follow up post added June 27th, 2014 10:12 PM ------

I hinted at this possibility last year when this story first surfaced.

Yeah I thought it was funny to call the miner guy, Bob, a goat farmer. Jeff quit being a hater on us midwest boys. You know your honey dreams it's us when she makes you wear the paper bag.

Unless LRNA was breaking the law(with their legal team I doubt they would), this is pretty solid stuff.

Well what are the terms of the bond that the VIN# was brought into the USA? The VIN# can be searched on the federal database if someone has the correct connections.

That looks like a gentleman's agreement to me, for a former employee.

I mean, it looks like a bill of sale to me... Vermont would let me use to it register a vehicle.
