I'd never have a used tdi shipped from England. Great way for folks to ship you crap. As you already found out.
New or nothing.
That said a new 200tdi is where you should aim to go or end up. You might transition to an Ex Tithoneous for a brief period but target should remain 200tdi.

And so it begins. I was almost excited when I saw the email notification of your post. What we should be looking at is a picture of something engine related removed... like say the engine. Leave the damn suspension alone and focus man!

Removal of the head is not almost done. Have you asked around for a hoist? I have seen an email to the OCC list for example.
