Should be able to run with no damper. All it is meant to do is limit kick back in the steering.
I ran without one with 35's for six months (forgot to install the replacement after bending one in a U).

I'm into the swivels this weekend...

Steering looseness tracked to the steering shaft to box joints being 25yo.

Put a few bits on the truck instead of finding a place to store them in the warehouse...

That looks like a broken timing belt that caused a valve to be in the wrong place that casued a push rod to push too hard on a rocker arm that has now broke.

Smells like a more than a few $Benjamin$- and a ruined trip.

(off topic - why is the license plate mounted in one place on photo #1 and another on photo #2?)

Photos out of order...

The truck spent time on a trailer twice in a week and is sitting out the trip the Expo...

Not quite enough time to get it ready and repaired with all the other work the last few weeks.

Such is life, and contingency plans that were put in place we activated and we are showbound with the 130 instead of both trucks.

Still need to pull the second head off to see the extent of the damage to the engine, but the engine was first generation and not being serviced at a dealership due to the geographical location of the engine. So the mainshaft timing gear had never received the service to resolve the belt eating issue. STC4095K was not installed as this particular engine was in the US at the time the SB went out.

So the belt ate itself (despite the correct timing) resulting in contact and valve pieces destroying the turbo and either the headgasket, rings, or piston head.

A half days work and the old lump is out - most of the ancillaries are off or have been loosened in preparation for installation into the newly refurbished lump courtesy of the fine folks at Turner Engineering.

Will spend another half day moving over the good bits and hunting down another timing belt as I used/sold the last one I had in stock. Anyone have a 300tdi belt handy while I wait for the 2 dozen I ordered to come in the next container.

Thank you! Now I have no excuse to drag the rebuild out later than this week.

I'll be pulling a turbo from a spare engine in the back of the shop and everything else is ready to clean and swap.

Done for the night...

All that remains to do before installation is to install the exhaust/intake/turbo and cooling system, and set the timing.

Engine in - initial drives are all good. Still dripping a bit of oil from the rear exhaust can from the failure. Will end up pulling and replacing the cans.
