LPG on import?

Can you import a Defender into the US with an LPG system or would that be an issue in customs? Thanks!

I'm guessing it would be an issue but if the LPG tanks were removed and shipped separately I would bet that nobody would even notice the rest of the LPG conversion. It comes down to what kind of gambler are you? If it was me I would remove it all but I also hate Vegas and slot machines.

Remove it.
While it may be EEC approve installation, it's not DOT approved.

There was a 110 that was just imported from the UK that was listed on Craigslist here locally that had a full LPG system still intact. The guy who was selling it has a shop here and regularly imports Defenders and parts. I'm not sure if he's a member on the forum or not. He's also listed some engines like 300tdi and Td5 that are definitely not EPA/DOT approved. I'm not sure how he gets everything through.

You can import engines removed from trucks all day long.. When you put them in a road licensed vehicle that's when you can run afoul of johnny law..
