Insurance Question for Canadians

Looking at importing a Defender into Ontario.

Anyone have any advice or stories regarding insurance? What did the provider do to get you insurance since the vehicle is not in their system. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Ping CDN38. He's got a sweet 110 Import on the level.

It varies by province, but the insurers don't "have vehicles in their system". They will insure anything. It is just the age old argument of value. Be aware that if it is RHD, it will be a royal pain.

It is the registration, where it needs to get into the system. You can see those requirements here: https://www.ontario.ca/faq/what-do-i...ehicle-ontario

Thank you for the feedback. Both on this thread and on pm's (moose, Blackfly911). I will continue to pursue quotes, I was surprised when the BelAir rep was talking about changing VINs on the truck.... Lost all confidence right then and there in regards to moving forward with a quote with them haha

I didn't have any trouble using TD Meloche Monnex to insure my 110 in Alberta.

For almost all inusrance companies in Ontario youíll need a vehicle valuation appraisal. After that I cannot see any company being a problem. Suggest you call your current agent and discuss it.

As a side note, depending on which country you import from, the title may be in a foreign language and you will need a certified translation done of the title (this will cost at least a couple hundred dollars) to get it registered. Youíll also need to get it declared (depending on MY) a grey market vehicle with drive clean. Have fun, good luck.

Cheers
