Ending dbaggery in build threads

Not sure of the feasibility/acceptance of this, but could we make build threads so that the OP is the only one who can post to them? If people had technical questions or suggestions they could be sent via PM. At that point, the OP could decide whether or not to post them in the thread.

I think it would make the threads more focused on the actual build and there would be less useless/pointless/trolling posts.

As a bonus, maybe Wolf would post pics of his build since inquiring minds(and Arles blue fans) wanna see it!

Just my two pennies,
Jay

Agreed that trolling really has no place in the build threads, and that some input should be shared via PM or in a new thread especially if it's questioning the legality of the vehicle. Most people seem to disagree with me, so maybe I'm way off here, but I honestly think long-term build threads are what used to really attract me to this forum because they were coming up with ways to keep these trucks on the road for a few more decades.

Those threads are the OP's story. But I can see people starting up secondary threads along the lines of

You know OP's Defender thread here: url : ..... Which will drag OP into a second thread.....

Not adverse to test driving the idea to see what happens.

Also I think there's a big difference between trolling and advising of potential safety or long-term wear consequences, and that it has to do with how it's all phrased...oh and also a big difference between someone posting pics of a truck being built FOR them and one they're building. In the past I recall there were some questions about some of the ways a truck was being built by a shop, and the owner whole-heartedly trusted the shop until the truck blew up on the way back to his house.

Anyway, I believe Wolf can post a registry entry and allow or not allow others to post via an option on his end before he makes it live, but I could be wrong. I think we all want to see pics of his truck at this point. No matter what, I think the option to should be with the OP to allow posts or not.

I think if you have a build thread and you don't like someone's comments on there maybe you can ask them to be deleted. But not being able to comment on them makes it completely pointless.

Gotta agree with Bobeck here... not being able to ask questions or offer suggestions would ruin build threads IMO. Would also prevent the OP from getting 30 PMs regarding the same question because it wasn't addressed publicly.

A basic approach to content control is by having your own web site. It's cheap nowadays.

Exactly. And this website here, is a "discussion forum" not a blog site.

Build threads by the talent and shops are some of the most informative and viewed threads in the forums. Check the #s. 20 build threads with over 20,000 views compared to 3 and 2 for the Defender and Series tech discussion threads. Even the BS chitchat threads tops out at 19.
But starting and maintaining a build thread when farming out the work to the talent or shop is the definition of a poser.

We should take points out of all sports so everyone is a winner and there aren't any hurt feelings... And no losers!

Pacification of America. It started with the elimination of dodge ball in elementary school.

Give everyone a medal, especially if they lose.

Raleigh started an adult dodge ball league... If I wasn't such a big target I would play...

I love dodge ball! It was really awesome when teachers were still able to play. They would light up the kids they didn't like and all of us would try to light up the teacher. Teachers pet points for pretending to light up the teacher but nailing someone whom the teacher disliked, on his own side....

Having disagreements in threads is the lifeblood of 3D Briggs life activity, and we all need his likes. As a retired yet self employed professional post liker and commentator, he has already taken a hit on the dysfunctional like function of this forum. Adding further restrictions on liking and commenting will put him out of business all together.

If you are against post commenting, then you are against small business.

If you are against small business, you are against America...and a socialist.

Dodge ball is for sissies - we had a game in seventh grade called "kill the man with the ball".
It was a blend of rugby, Australian rules football, American football and soccer. There were no rules except to try any means possible to move the ball to the far end of the field and the opposition was trying to steal it back and do the same thing. No time outs, no breaks, if anyone got hurt you jumped over them or kicked them out of the way. We were a rough (and somewhat unsupervised) bunch. Our sixty-plus year old teacher just didn't want to know.
