Safety Devices D90 Rear roof rack ladders and ECR roof baskets

Feel free to move this to the vendors loft (I was unable to post there).

Due to popular demand and our new relationship with Safety Devices I can announce some new mail order products that are coming soon:

We will be offering the SD Defender 90 rear ladder system (just the ladder and the backing plates) so that people can use this piece to create their own racks if they so desire, or replace rusted or damaged original SD rack ladders without the need to buy the entire system. These are genuine SD parts made by SD.

We will also be offering the ECR roof basket mail order. We have found a way to produce it faster and reduce the costs (computerized bending). This is the same basket we have been making for some time and can be special ordered with various additional mounts and such. Additional Yakima adapters will also be available so that you can run any Yakima rack product on our rack (skis, boats, boards, storage boxes, etc). It comes stock work light mount locations, Hi-Lift mount locations and a stainless steel floor. This unit is a direct replacement for the original SD basket and requires no mods to install on a truck that already has the SD system.
We will be making them for NAS 90s with the SD system and for the NAS 110 as well.

Some images attached. Prices coming soon, but I can say that we have been able to reduce costs on these items and are happy to offer them to the DIY Defender owner!

Any chance of getting a rear ladder modified to work with ROW light configuration?

I must say your racks look great I like that the sides are shorter and look to fit the trucks better.

Sorry, right now our market is NAS trucks. The ROW trucks have many many rack options, so I think we will be leaving that to other rack manufactures who already have it covered.

Super-sweet.

It's nice to know these will be available. Although I sold mine about a year ago, I've been having "sellers remorse."

We'll work something out in regards to a discount with our customers who bought the SD set up from ECR that want our basket.

Question

Mike,

What about the cross bars over the roll cage? I would like a setup without a basket, i.e. rear ladder and crossbars with two horizontal bars connecting them.

Cheers...

I second that. Was going to use extra long Thule Bike trays to reduce vibration but if Mike sets up some plain bars that would be sweet.

Clarification:

What we will be selling is the ECR roof basket.
If you have a SD rack system you can remove that SD basket and put the ECR one on.

We will also be selling the SD rear ladder assembly.
That way you can replace your damaged unit, or if you want to make your own basket and rack system you can.

We do not currently have all the parts needed to set up a complete rack system and we are not selling a complete rack (yet).

Currently the feet for the rack system are NLA.
We are working on getting them re-made but that is not confirmed yet.

So to clarify:
We are selling some parts and some upgrades for those who already have SD racks.
We are not selling complete rack systems at this time.

As soon as we secure the rack feet then we will do complete systems, but as I have no ETA on that I don't want to suggest that we are.

We will be able to do the ladder and the cross bars, but NOT the feet for the cross bars.

Why run the system without a roof basket on it? I don't get it?

Is this for getting in and out a garage or something?

For me:
It will fit in the garage.
I can use it for a Long Surf Board.
And attach a Thule box on top for skis and golf clubs. I hate leaving stuff in the back with doors locked. I am affraid they will cut the top.

Fit depends on the lift and tires on your truck.
Our basket on the SD support system is approx. 35" above the cap rail on a 90.
Taller if you run the Yakima products.
See images above.

In our system you can use Yakima products to carry your board, skis, kayak, bikes, whatever. The Yakima system sits above the rails of the basket so you can carry any board. We put 18' sea kayaks on one no issue.

Shorter boards fit in our basket without need for the Yakima products.

You can attach any Yakima product to our system, like their cargo box.

Are you going to sell the SD 'Expedition' version of the d90 rack that mounts to the gutters for SWs?

That would be a special order item as we will only be stocking things that fit NAS Defenders.

Mike:

Would one be able to get the 110 rack with a full basket (verses the open front)?

Love the low profile (G4) look!

Thanks
Dendy

Anything is possible. I would have a higher price tag as they way we can reduce costs is to have everything computer bent and then assemble it. The top/front hoop for that style would need to be hand made so therefore more costly, but certainly doable.
The open front sure keeps your options open for tents, longboards, etc down the road though.
