I hear what you are saying but it feels a lot better buying stuff that's made in the US espeically when it's steel and welded. But that might be from me growing up in Western MA and the home of Indian motorcycles, Columbia bikes, & Smith and Wesson. And consumer nation is totally right - but that doens't feel good either. Since we have such cheap and widely available goods we are a throw-away nation as well.

I've been trying to get a very small bike company going and it would be a lot easier/cheaper to send specs to china or tawain but I'm trying to keep it in-house and made in US (VT). But it will be a tough road - I'm hoping direct to cutomer sales and slight mods/tweeks per frame will keep us a step ahead.

Mike @ ECR - having said above, Safety Devices building those bumpers in the UK seems very applicable for a Land Rover. Looking at their site and hearing about you guys talking about ST cages - can they do a some padding for you? http://www.safetydevices.com/motorsp...mpact-padding/

SD manufacturing is in POLAND! thy went bust a few years back, moved the manufacturing to Poland and strted up again...hence the international bit. The offices are in the UK, hence the quality drop off.

Thanks Mike! I hate to sounds like a broken record, but do you have a ballpark on cost? Need to know how much of my bonus to set aside.

I am about 99.9% sure this was a joke... hence my comment about "third time's a charm", as in that would be the third time SafariGard came back into existence.

As far as I know there is no talk of Casey or anyone else bringing SG back from the dead.

chit chat

Don,
I am with you on trying to keep the U.S. going in the manufacturing business. I purposely seek out U.S. products when I can and am willing to pay more for them. I have done a 180 in the past 10 years regarding a global economy.

Safety Devices vendors have been showing 915.00+vat for these over there, so what do you think the final price will be over here? Probably double that once the container to the US, customs, US shipping/crating, etc. are factored in?

Wow!!!

$2500 bumpers make no sense.

They probably do when you're well north of $100k on a rebuild and been waiting for a year or so.
