“Kick panels” Cardboard replacement

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have acquired templates (94 95 97) for the stock cardboard foot well panels and have started on the prototype replacement parts, as things develop I will continue to post in this section so everyone will be able to follow the progress and provide input as to how the final products looks.

Additionally I have posted a poll at the top of this thread so that I can get a better idea of how many people are interested in the kick panels and what year of 90 they drive.

Preliminary details of the replacements

.090 5052 Aluminum
Black texture power coat
1997 Drivers side only
1994/1995 Driver and passenger side (Passenger side pending feedback from everyone if they have A/C or not)

I finished the drawings of all three parts tonight and will be sending them out to the cutters on Monday for a quote.

Thanks,

Dave Lucas

Any chance of making them out of checker plate? Also why no passenger side for the 97 w/ A/C.

Hi,

"Any idea on the price."
I still need to check with the powder coater and find out some other information before I can post an estimated price, but you know that I am always VERY fair on my prices

"Any chance of making them out of checker plate?"
Well, anything is possible, but the checker plate is really really really expensive, the labor would increase and the parts would need to be anodized so I would say that it easily probably triple or quadruple the price compared to the current plan.

“Also why no passenger side for the 97 w/ A/C”
hmmm, my 97 with A/C does not have a cardboard piece on the passenger side and it does not look like I am missing anything so I assumed the D90’s with A/C did not have the cardboard on the passenger side, please check yours and let me know, also take some pics if you do not mind.

Great questions guys,

Dave

Dave, your right about the '97 with AC and no panel on the passenger side. It think it's silly they don't have one as often my passengers kick the ground wire off the AC.

Looking forward to your new product...

kick panel

I am drawing a blank. Are the panels the ones you must remove to remove door hinge bolts? To the right of the passenger's feet and the left of the driver's feet? If not, what are you guys talking about?

Sorry about the last post, it's really mine. I was still logged in as Admin from when I was helping Chris Von Land Rover with the initial BBS database stuff.

I'd be interested (95 w/out AC)...might need to put some sort of rubber feet or insulation as the panels might rattle when installed.

Doug is also interested but he's got a '93 110 (A/C in dash).

I have 97 with A/C. Thin chequerplate with pattern facing down and noise/heat insulation on the inside would definitely be the choice material.

Hello All,

I just wanted to give everyone an update on the Kick panels.

Currently the plan is to build the panels from laser cut .090 Aluminum and have them powder coated with a black textured powder coat, I should have some non-powder coated prototypes that I can test fit soon and post some pictures so that everyone can get an idea of how they will fit and what the will look like – powder coating.

Click on the following link if you would like to see a sample of the coating that I was planning on using (BK04 or BK62).
http://www.cardinalpaint.com/html/powdercoatings.html

I personally like the BK04 since it looks like black leather

Estimated price (for the initial run of panels)

Drivers Side Panel (94,95 and 97 D90) $40.00

Passenger side for the non A/C people $35.00

Thanks,

Dave Lucas

Wicks,
I am not sure if I will be making them for the 110 at this time since there are so few 110’s in the US it would be very expensive for such a small run, but I need to find a 110 so I can compare the panels and see how they compare to the 90 panels and if they are close I will not rule the 110 out as an option.
Anyone out there have a good picture of the stock 110 panels or maybe some measurements?
