European trailer plug to flat 4 harness

Atlantic British is now making the European trailer plug to flat 4 harness that would of been in the factory wiring harnesses in the 1990's through early 2000's.

Finally, one that is LONG enough to be of use. It took me forever to find one when I was looking. The one that comes in the genuine kit is really short.

I have discussed this before on D-90.com

The new genuine "kit" sold is the one for a DI/RRC/D90 is really a DI part. The correct old syle D90/D110 one (and, as you note, the p38a one) has the proper long cable to reach from the side mount. On a DI or RRC the plug is right next to the hitch so you can get by (barely) with the short one.

This does NOT fit a range rover classic plug. Just showed up and I need to send it back.

What about adding (or replacing) a North American style 7-blade plug to the rear? does each European pin and associated wire correspond with one of the NA blades?

According to http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx the 7 pin flat plug is just an extension of the 4-pin. Don't think that will help much with the euro standard.

John, what did not work with the classic? The euro plug is "standard" just the euro->us adaptor is something added to the truck. The euro to 4-pin adaptor is simply a plug converter nothing much to it.

The 7 pin plug on my classic is much smaller than the one on this kit. This one worked but the other one has a bigger 7 pin plug.

I think there is a misunderstanding. The "new" part is basically an extension cord + euro trailer plug->us 4-pin converter. You can't use this without the adaptor that takes the tail light and stop light signal and convert them into a single signal (in Europe stop light and tail lights -have- to have a separate bulb).
The part (9439A) you gave us a link to does -not- use the euro trailer plug, instead it takes the internal rover trailer harness, mix the tail/stop light signal together -and- outputs 4-pin plug.

Yup, sorry if I contributed to the misunderstanding. I assumed you had the genuine kit and lost this adaptor, not that you had some aftermarket kit that fell off completely.

gotcha, So i'd need something with smarter wiring to combine the signals regardless.

I only asked bc I have a 3' long 7-blade to 4-pin flat adapter left over from my mom's old suburban, and the universal 7-blade flat mount plugs are about $15 @ autozone.

On my '95 D90 I have the 7-pin Euro plug, which is connected directly to the 7-pin wiring harness in the right side wheel well. There is no converter box. I also have the adapter that Eric lists here in this post, which is from my '98 P38.

When I connect the trailer all of the lights work except for the brakes, which makes sense given Euro standard of a separate connection for the brakes. Instead of installing a converter box is it possible to jump the brake wire into the left/right signal wires inside the 7-pin end of the adapter above? I haven't tried it yet, but it seems like it should work.

Does this kit work if it want to connect it to my 300tdi harness to run a us flat 4 trailer?

This will only work if you already have the European 7 pin plug installed. If so, then it works great. I use it on my P38.

Yes if you have the European 7 at the trailer hitch this will get you to a 4 flat at the trailer.

Currently I have nothing on both defender and trailer side. I plan to completely replace the wiring on the trailer with what will likely be a us harness and plug. I have nothing installed on my 300tdi harness for towing (that I know of). Am I better off going with the 9439A kit from AB then? Confused.
