Defender Bonnet

We have a Beluga Black standard Defender bonnet. Had a customer come in and swap for a Puma hood. Asking $550 obo. It's in excellent condition and the paint looks great.

They are Genuine Parts indeed. I don't believe we have any fiberglass units ATM but fiberglass can be tricky on any application. They have to be prepped really well and you also need a good painter as fiberglass weave is easily seen through thin paint applications.

The biggest issue with fiberglass replacement panels in the automotive world seems to always be fitment. In my past experience with the sport compact world I've seen them arrive warped, shrunk, and even had them require to be built up in areas due to not being symmetrical. Then on top of all that you always run the risk of them cracking due to flex.

I'll have to do a little research for Rover applications, but a while back I saw a material being used in place of fiberglass called Duraflex that is extremely well made.

Thanks for the good info, Scott. That Duraflex stuff looks pretty neat. After watching the video(terrible acting, and all), I just think about all the little dents in my aluminum and get depressed. My door skins and wings look like hell.

My standard bonnet is in good shape, but I like the look of the Puma. (Yes, I feel a little douchey for being so concerned with aesthetics, but I dont care... let the chastising begin). I cant bring myself to pay a grand for a genuine Puma bonnet though when there is nothing wrong with mine. I figured the fiberglass would be cheaper. Ill keep searching. Thanks.

There's an old school trick to fix those. Google fire and ice dent repair. :

The glass bonnets are not very nice underside. They are rough rough fibreglass. They look terrific on top, but are unfinished underneath. The underside lip is not finished on the corners on most of those I have seen. Yes they are cheaper, but are they worth it. Nope! They are considerably less weight. So if it is not down tight they are going to flap in the wind.

We purchased one for a build. It looks really cool, but I would not buy another.

Agreed with Mark's comments. I am replacing a fiberglass Puma bonnet with a metal one on one of my trucks and the underside is pretty rough and fitment is difficult to make work perfectly.
