Let's face it, the 2.5 petrol and 2.5 NA diesel just have no ass. Get them on a hill and suddenly you are dropping down in gears just to sorta keep up with traffic..... 80ish HP will do that
Perhaps the best solution is to grab a 200 or 300 tdi (I might know where some are
) but lacking funds, time or energy how about adding 15 + HP in about an hour?
The stock belt driven fan is fine at low RPMs on the trail or the farm, on the road the belt driven fan SUCKS HP! One can read all kinds of stats on line but on average a belt driven fan robs a motor of 10-15 HP and the faster you got the more it uses!
We started by installing this on my 110 2.5na just to see how much of a difference it made. I really was amazed. I get better/ quicker warm up, slightly better around town but a significant difference on the highway. On my daily commute I am accelerating in 5th gear up a long grade where before I would be pushing in 4th gear to keep at speed! This is not a silver bullet, the truck is still slow but it is less slow. I feel a real, day to day difference in how it drives and I am now comfortable on the highway 65-70 where before I was straining 60-65.
We decided to make the kit up and we wanted to make it as complete as possible.
The kit includes:
Hi po steel fan
Custom fan spacer
Jubilee clips for the coupling
Rubber insulators for the steel shroud to motor
All stainless steel hard wear
The above is $275 shipped in CONUS
The jubilee clips and the rubber insulators are Britpart, we make the spacer, the fan and clutch are flex a lite and we make the fabric coupling from heavy marine reinforced vinyl that we patterned off of a very expensive, original NOS part
If needed, we can also provide belts, hoses, water pump etc.... If you really want to do it all at once.
