If you bring me back a TD5 drivetrain I can pay you with a 6 pack of PBR in bottles.

Since you have to pay 20% sales tax in the UK I've found it rarely worthwhile bringing stuff home with me. That said, I've going over in January and getting a few small items.

Well I heard if you are there less than 30 days I believe you can get the VAT back at the airport with the right forms. Also, I think if you have them ship it to you you avoid the VAT.

Last time I was there I had a few sets of keys made. I didn't find any offroad shops during my journey so nothing caught my eye while touring.

I was just there in October (it was already cold then) and got some cool stuff from the gigglepin folks. Cool people. Yeah, the vat can be off putting.

You can reclaim vat at the airport with the right forms. If you mail order in the UK and have it delivered to where you are staying ask them to provide the forms. Most shops selling higher end goods especially in London will be able to provide the forms. The process at the airport is very straightforward.

Soapy water / KY jelly, etc. is is basically a must. Yes, good idea to remove trim panels - only takes 5 more minutes to do so.
