WTF Google?

So here I am getting my morning interwebz fix, and I wanted to comparison shop a 2 meter ham radio I am thinking about buying.

So I search on google, and the AdSense at the bottom of the page gives me:

I know a lot of people have been using my laptop over the holidays, but now Google seems to think I am the crazy dude from Silence of the Lambs. Sweet.

It's often quite hilarious what adsense picks to display. There have been stories Eric Schmidt has talked about where it picked some somewhat inappropriate things to display when kids searched for depression or something like that. I think they fixed that one

However, I think you're safe since it doesn't really take browsing history into account! They only do that for customized search.

It was a Yaesu FTM-350... I am guessing the "FTM" threw off the GOOG.

Pretty sure that's what I am getting. I wanted to make sure it would pass NMEA waypoints out the data port as APRS beacons came in. That way I can connect the radio to the toughbook or what not and show the received beacons on a topo map. Makes it easy to see where other people are, without them having to try and pass GPS coords or grids over the radio.

I have a Kenwood TM-D700 in the LR3, and it's a nice radio, but I think the Yaesu is a little more tough, so it will go in my soon to be acquired D90.

That's a nice radio. You might also look at the Argent Data Systems T2-301. It's a little box--just a little bigger than an iPhone--and it has a 5W radio and TNC built-in. You connect it to a GPS and it will output the NMEA waypoints. I'm using it as a tracker because I have an Icom 706 MkIIG and I don't want to tie it up with APRS.

Hmmm... interesting. That would leave all the APRS stuff to itself, and I could get another radio strictly for voice.

Something to think about.
