Land Rover is not, and has not been paying attention.

You've seen the new Defender, right?

Land Rover can't bring in a pickup due to the chicken tax.

They will be building this in the toledo plant along with the wrangler. To allow for production capacity, they are moving the Cherokee production to the plant in Illinois that currently makes the Chrysler 200. The Cherokee move is scheduled over 2016. Then they expand and refit the wrangler line to increase perdition capacity in 2017. The final fitment of the lines to allow for the new "scrambler" won't start till late 2017.
At least that's what my friend who manages the plant told me.

The Geländewagen is being made and sold so no Land Rover is not paying attention. If MB can make the Geländewagen conform to current laws than the D110 could certainly. Not to mention the G-Wagen is almost $50k more expensive now then when they MBUSA brought it here in the early 2000's. Had to move the price so it didn't compete with the GL class. Haha like it really competes with that.

I saw that as well...and admittedly I'd be seriously tempted to upgrade the 130 if they end up doing a Brute-ish doublecab config:

Only way LR could make a pickup for the US is to open a factory here. Otherwise the 25% chicken tax kills it. The fact that LR sales are kicking butt and taking names here lately might open their eyes to the possibility.
They have a US approved diesel now so we can dream....

I'd expect a Mexico factory over US. Use Nafta to bypass chicken tax etc. But then LR already assembles Evoques and D Sports in Brazil......

They are doing a great job keeping it under wraps . I had expected a leaked photo at least.

I mean aside from the updated Wrangler I haven't seen a 4x4 update that went over with the purists yet.

FJ missed
same with 4 runner
Panjero
I mean the list goes on and on, but when I see a singularity in design (a la evoke, discovery sport, new discovery) I think we can be pretty sure that the new defender platform is going to be more round and less rugged.

But lets face it, most guys are mall cruising anyway

aside from the Viper most concepts are drastically different from their production vehicles. Don't get me wrong the a recognizably the same vehicle but you can tell a lot has changed.

I don't believe most Defender enthusiasts are mall cruisers. Certainly not around here. Every new Defender owner I've met has taken their truck off road the day they bought it.

Exactly. IMO Land Rover will never make a vehicle like the Brute because they can't find a way to reconcile the offroad ruggedness of it with their status symbol image here in the States.

LRNA is retarded as far as I'm concerned. Instead of embracing the offroad community and being active in it they hold off clubs at arms length. The fact that LRNA has no presence at the Land Rover National Rally(or any other event for that matter) pretty much says it all.

^^ This is probably an accurate statement. ^^

I'd bet that percentage-wise, Land Rover doods do more offroading...
