Would You?

I like getting everyone on this forums opinion because most of you have more experience than me.

There is a 94 D90 for sale that has 181,000 miles. It has a lot of upgrades and appears to be in good shape but I have only seen pictures. The owner wants upper 20s for it.

I'm thinking about buying it for a 300tdi project. Is the vehicle and project worth the money? Would I be able to get my money back if I had to get rid of it?

If this is a stupid idea, tell me!

Thanks,

Battle

If you're looking for a TDi swap, rust should be your main concern. Everything else can be dealt with.

But that price is pretty high for 181k.

Would think the ROR for a Tdi swap on a ROW would be better than on a NAS. I'd start by looking at that Tdi ROW 90 project for sale here at a savings over starting fresh.

No, but you'll get your money back from the 1997 LE, so you're already ahead of the game! Most cars depreciate, and while it's financially responsible to consider the resale value one upgrade has on the overall vehicle over another, I wouldn't let it drive every decision I make...as enjoying the vehicle is more than half the fun in the first place!

Chassis and drivetrain swap say $10k for parts and you chose on labor.

Are you really going to have a $30k plus vehicle afterwards?

If really interested, go and see it in the metal (or the rust) and decide what its really worth. To many horror stories of people buying on pictures.....

Disregard. My local land rover mechanic said it would cost roughly $23k to put a 300 Tdi in an NAS model. He said it isn't worth it.

Oh definitely... I thought you were going to do the labor yourself. Labor for that kind of job will never get you a ROI.
